    Hey Tim, with setting 10 degrees nozzle angle, it's not the tail plane you're worried about, it's the flaps, if you've got flap 25 selected and your nozzles are at zero you're going to get some nice melty holes in the flap where the exhaust passed through, so long as you're at less than flap 25 though you're fine to take zero nozzle angle, but common practice is 10 degrees on the ground. In terms of engine limits and the diamond that appears in the HUD for JPT and RPM, well it's acceptable to be within that diamond for short periods while hovering and doing V/STOL ops, but you need to be aware that the onboard systems are keeping track of cumulative engine stress over the flight, and they can limit your thrust output if they decide the cumulative stress has become too high, so if you push the engines hard early in the flight you could come in for a vertical landing, only to find that you're limited to 80% normal maximum (i.e. 80% of what you get before the diamond appears) power (I think it's 80%, if memory serves) which wont be enough to bring you into the hover. There is a page somewhere in the MFDs that lets you see all the data about the tracked engine stress, so you can ensure it's going to give you full power before you attempt to hover..... if you can ever find the page, but for the life of me I can't remember how you get at it.

    Ok, ok ok ok, I had exactly the same impression after moving from FC3, to hornet, to JF-17 (best user interface eeever) and finally.. to the harrier. MY first attempts at firing imavs almost caused me to pull my hair out, but after a few dozen flight hours I think Ive found a good way to approach it. The first thing to remember is that despite how everything looks, the systems function nothing like the hornet. The second thing to take into account is that the harrier can be thought of as "systems built on top of systems built on top of systems" lol. It went from a simple, mostly analogue jet to a mostly analog jet with new digital avionics stuffed in over its service life. Each jet has its quirks, but the harrier is basically ALL quirks lol

    The Harrier is the most capable attack aircraft in DCS Bar none....but in terms of firing Mavs you should be able to fire all 4 and still be 9 miles from target....with the Hornet it's a struggle to even fire all 4 in a single pass...if you slow down you can maybe do it with 4 miles to spare.

Hardest of the lot to fly and you made it look like a doddle - must say something about Tonka pilots! I still haven't managed a hover yet... and as for the weapons system, bloody complicated when compared to the FA18 (especially the T-Pod functionality). The new approach by ED on the 2 week grace period for try-before-you-buy on the mods will be a big bonus when considering which mod to procure next... that said, gotta love this one, especially with the RAF / RNAS skins....

    Try setting up a farp in one of the smallest wood clearings in the editor. Launch as a 2 ship from the boat about 100 miles from target. Hit primary target then rearm at farp (correctly/tactically) then perform cas about 50 miles from farp, repeat farp missions a few times then return back to the boat. Now that's a mission mate.

    The Harrier was my favourite module in DCS for years. Unfortunately the developer seems to have been changing things a lot lately. It used to be a very "gamey" module, where things probably didn't work like they should've but in the context of a game they were enjoyable. Last week's laser update was a real PITA. Didn't see the patch notes so I had to figure out what was going on on the fly while I had a flight of strike aircraft relying on me to DEAD a major target. But automatically turning the laser off when it moves in area track mode and safing the laser is real fun when you're attacking a target you can't get a point track on and need to adjust (which happens pretty often with the point track's habit of jumping out nearby areas of similar contrast).

    I'm sure there will be harrier experts in your server teaching you the ways of our lord and saviour, but I spose I can already tell you here that you should put the flaps switch to STO when doing takeoffs and landings, that'll pull the flaps down to the full 60 when you rotate the nozzles aft. The difference will be massive, especially with a light jet. Putting water on the appropriate mode will also help, and you should be able to gun the throttle and get the full 22k-odd pounds of thrust when you most need it. Personally I also go to hover stop to flare the aircraft, since you can't really flare conventionally.

Oh, and if you do get some harrier pilots to play, can you ask them if the AFC switch is modelled correctly. It turns itself off with stick input in game, but the Natops manual says it shouldn't. • @AYYOFLOCKA

    @AYYOFLOCKA

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@FastJetPerformance In short yes those are also calculated based on Engine life in the ENG page so if you’ve cooked it by flying in MIL all day long you will find yourself just falling out of the sky when asking her to stay up in the hover. You’ll also need to check your Gross Weight (GWT) on the VREST page if you have stores loaded up I think max gross weight for a stable hover is around ~20500 lbs but your mileage may vary depending on Engine health and air humidity (I find landing in the cold caucasus mountains much easier so I imagine that is reasonably well simulated). If you're struggling I find it helpful to think about whether. Gross weight is OK H20 switch set appropriately Flaps to VSTOL Trim is centered Nozzle stop lever isn’t going to kill me

    Hi Tim… do you have a link to the Jet Seat… is it worth the £50 import tax?

    Ooooo, right now import is high, might be even more now to import - also, money transfer is hard as Andre is Russian. Buy as part of a high end rig but I would say better rudder pedals etc are a better option first - also, Jet Seat is best if you fly VR mainly. andres-shop.simshaker.com/jetpad-jetseat/52-vibrating-pad-simshaker-jetpad.html

    Funny that about harrier pilots drinking milk because as a harrier liney every time I met tornado groundcrew they were a bit shit & whined a lot 😄 Not sure about the aircrew loving groundcrew comment either 🙃
