Good to see you all over the F-4 and surprised you mixed it up with the F-16. Already you have an excellent grasp of the F-4. The best book written on fighting in the F-4 is "Scream of Eagles". From the book; enter the fight with no less than 550 kts. When your speed bleeds to 350 kts, unload and extend 2-3 miles to regain your energy, then pitch back into the fight at no less than 550 kts. Plenty of F-4 pilot accounts of chasing Vietnamese MIG-17s and 21s on the deck at M1.2+. When the Phantom turns it creates 15X the drag of the F-16. The F-4's wing is a "delta". Scream of Eagles talks about 2 F-4s pressing a MIG flying/using "the egg", with one attacker always pressing the MIG while the other zooms to reposition - a classic Boom n Zoom tactic. I see the F-4 as a FW-190 using slashing attacks, Boom n Zoom, and only turning horizontally when absolutely needed. Scream of Eagles also documents the formation of TOP GUN. When fighting the MIG-17 at TOP GUN, they learned the 17 flies perfectly well at 100 knots. Performing a break turn on a MIG-17? Very funny. Unload and extend. 550 kts allows you to go vertical and/or extend. My father flew the F-4 from 1975-77. He said the faster you go, the better it gets meaning, keep your speed up. Turbojets LIKE air. The turbojet is faster from 400-800 knots than the turbofan. He and the boys called the F-4, "The Pig". After flying the F-104 and the F-5, the Phantom is not nearly as maneuverable and not as kinematic-ly as potent as the F-104 hence, The Pig. They also called it "Double Ugly". Really looking forward to the F-4 content.

I really appreciate your comment brother, it was a great read!! I will have to check out that book, it sounds like like it would be a very good read. Your father sounds like an awesome individual, and he flew the f4, cool stuff!!

Ideally, the Phantom likes to be +400kts for speed and below 20000ft. in altitude. You’ll tend to get the best out of the F-4 in a dogfight if you keep to that.

I saw another comment that stated this. The problem that I have come across with the best performance at 440 kts is that It's not enough energy to enable you to abuse the vertical. The way I approach the f4 as of now is having excess energy in order to take advantage of an opponent's energy mismanagement. I'm not trying to out-turn bandits if that makes sense. Thanks for the comment! 🫡

@@SukhoiGC You might have missed my point. I wasn’t saying hard fast rules. I was mentioning the conditions the Phantom like to be to get the most out of it. The fight dictates what you need to do to win and energy management is a big part of that. Knowing the speed and angels envelope translates into management and having energy to go to the vertical or execute any BFM to gain advantage and be in the WES. Having knowledge of the +400 and under angels 20 is important to know and speaks directly to giving you the ability to manage energy to things like you mentioned. Hope that helps not just you but others that need a tip for the Phantom.

For a brick, he flew pretty good. Looking forward to you schooling the flying computers in the lead sled. And I swear, I think the MiG-23 has better forward visibility than the Phantom, whoof that heavy framing and cluttered instruments.

Just a question, is the physics accurate with the f4 yet? i feel it to be bit too agile tbh. but hey, what do i know ;) just a question. and i know that f16 is a beast. ;)

Honestly it feels very maneuverable, unexpectedly so. But I did read that the "E" variant with "LERx" or leading edge slats increased its agility.
