Hi all! I'm thrilled to present my new 16 minutes short film DCS: BULLDOGS. This project took 9 months in the making and depicts a fictional CAS mission with radio coms between A-10 pilots and a JTAC. The challenge was to be as realistic as possible, so all dialogues and procedures have been overseen by a real life JTAC!! Expect to see something they don't show you everyday in Hollywood movies :)
For the third time, this new production has been made with the precious help from the Joint Task Force Francophone (JTFF). Hope you'll enjoy! Please, let me know what you think in the comments below! Thank you so much for your support, it always means a lot!!! Fly safe. Fly Metal. Greetings from France ++

    A superb production. The realistic radio comms added a lot, and really makes this video “stand out” from the crowd … certainly from the big screen Hollywood films that ignore or distort such things! Realistic comms really highlight the cool professionalism demanded by JTACS and pilots in the high stress of combat.

    I appreciate you taking time to make a video showing the A-10 in a deeper manner. I’m just a retired Army Infantryman so my input is from my experiences with the A-10 in two wars. The A-10 only carries a set amount of flares so they can only evade so many SAM’s/MANPAD’s before they’re in a vulnerable position. The Air Force keeps a close eye on enemy activity on the ground which they get constant updates from various sources including the US Army. They do this so they know which areas are high risk to slower aircraft like the A-10 and helicopters. In a forested terrain, the A-10 will drop down to NOE level to avoid direct observation that MANPAD launchers rely on more than larger SAM systems, IR tracking missiles are a difficult threat to detect when they launch so they tend to have an AWACS scanning for all missile activity in a sector they’re traveling through. Flying NOE (Nape Of the Earth) and sometimes even lower is a sure way to avoid most missile systems detection but it requires strict focus from the pilot. If there’s friendly forces not far from where the MANPADS and SAM’s launched from AWACS can request Army attack helicopters to do a hunter-killer mission to find and destroy the enemy that fired on the birds. Another option is 155mm artillery, with modern munitions the artillery can take out pinpoint targets within 30 miles but the artillery doesn’t always have too many of those special munitions so it has to be critical before they’ll approve the use for a single MANPAD site but, they will gladly use them on a SAM site. A-10’s we’re designed to take out enemy vehicle columns and of course, tanks, lots of tanks but they found that the A-10 was an excellent platform for various stand-off weapons and bombs so, they turned it into a flying dump truck, lol. So it can do massive bombing runs and I’ve seen that myself and I almost feel sorry for the house those poor Iraqi bad guys were in since it collapsed on top of them when the A-10 hit it, this was in the winter of 2003 on the south side of Baghdad near Al-Rashid where my unit was posted (FOB Muleskinner/Camp Cuervo) I was in 2-6 Infantry, 1st Armor Division. I mention these details just to give a better context to what we did there for those who like to track unit locations and activities. We were later put on FOB St. Michael’s which was a hell hole, we got hit daily but the Iraqi’s sucked at being accurate. We rarely called in air strikes and just used the 3 155mm M-109’s on the FOB to fire back when we got mortared. So if you ever wanted to make a video then hopefully I provided some information to make it interesting. I’m not saying this video was not interesting, just thoughts for a future video. That said, the way A-10’s are used in the European theater is a bit different since we know there’ll be tanks coming out of the demon hole so then the A-10 will be in her original environment and so will I as an 11H, Heavy Anti Armor Weapons Infantryman where we use the TOW system to engage tanks starting at 4,000 meters. It takes about 15 seconds for the missile to reach that distance and nothing survives a good hit (if the missile is aimed at the tracks, it’ll just blow apart the tracks and suspension and not penetrate the crew compartment which is a waste of a missile since I’ll have to fire another missile to kill it.

    I don't remember so much Com traffic, from our F.O. to the birds but we had a different R.O.E. than the boys who came after us. During D.S. it was the old way of troops, tanks, building fire for effect. We had two great F.O.s in my Platoon 1/504th PIR, they never had to call for fire but we listened to 325 call for it a lot over the radio. I was just a basic Infantryman with a Radio strapped on my back. One morning I woke up to hearing Apache's making a run on a column of Armor, I am like anyone else hearing this shit? Of Course the 25's weren't able to pick it up so everyone near me listened into the Attack over my headset. I hated those 5 tons, my seat with a Radio strapped to me was 5 Claymore mines, if you know how we set them off, you would understand a Radio and a Claymore are not very friendly to each other.

    Cinematography - outstanding, the best shot for shot military aviation video or DCS video I’ve ever seen. The level of detail for this, incredible. Sound effects and music and detail are absolutely out of this world for this type of content. Voiceover mixing… I hate to say is lacking. I was looking forward to watching this at home on the big screen and with my theater stereo system. I could not understand 90% of what was said throughout the whole short film. Only from the amazing visuals and my knowledge of check in, show of force, 9-line etc I knew what was going on. Watched the whole thing again on my phone and could understand voiceover.

    I've been writing my own military story, and I appreciate creators and all contributors who strive for accuracy and realism while remaining compelling. Perhaps one day, my own work will be as good and impactful as this (it probably won't ever happen, but what's wrong with dreaming?).

    Just incredible work done on this video - once I got into, I forgot I was watching a simulation and I was lucky enough to have seen A-10's in action while stationed at Fort Drum, New York back in the early 80's.

    Yeah the Comms are WAY too much on this one lol. 90% of the video is just A-10's flying and saying random unnecessary numbers/callouts on the radio

    Was strange they gave such a detailed report of all their armaments. Is that normal?

  • @CCM1199

    @CCM1199

    3 ай бұрын

    @@MikeB4028 Its normal when they come to the AO or as we call it: "on station". That gives the HQ information as to what type of loadout the vehicle is configured in. Its the same way when Apache helicopters come into sector on deployments. any aviation that comes into a unit's battlespace for a patrol, they will contact the unit's battle space HQ and let them know how many vehicles and what they are carrying. That gives the HQ a ballpark figure as to how they can conduct actions on contact when they are engaging the enemy.

    @@CCM1199 they are still excessive and half of them didn't need to be there. Like when the convoy is being engaged in the cinematic instead of providing CAS they say grid callouts for 3 minutes even though you can clearly see the target
