    Deephack, how do you still only have 2k subscribers your walkthroughs are insanely high quality and have really helped haven't played DCS and haven't been able to put the time in to learn properly. This series has really helpedn

    I was stationed aboard Tarawa during the Persian Gulf War. You are the first person I've seen to come CLOSE to landing correctly aboard Tarawa. Your form and pattern were great (I've watched the real thing many MANY times). The only fly in the ointment was that when you were hovering, you were a little too high. They tended to slide sideways over the deck about 2/3 the way up the island (about 15-25 feet seemed to be what they were shooting for). They were always below the 0-15 level of the bridge

    Thanks for the feedback, that's high praise. I am actually in the process of revising my field ops and ships ops videos using real checklists and procedures so I expect to be able to correct this soon. Let's see if I can get closer next time ;-)

    @@deephack well, I actually got a chance to talk with a Harrier pilot on ship (we were the nearest source of coffee to his stateroom). He called flying a Harrier in hover “riding the dragon”

    Man, that VREST page is so damn useful! No more using the loadout screen for GWT and graphs to see what nozzle rotate speed is...

    I noticed this too, it looked a bit better in 2.5 so I'm wondering if my install is messed up somehow. Will look into this.

    @@deephack You can now populate the deck yourself with pretty much anything. Remember to "link" the placed items to the Tarawa to stop them falling off. ED say they did this to encourage more variety in the Tarawa but yes, initially it looks very sparse. The actual detail of the ship is actually improved over 2.5.6 however. Thanks for all your videos.

    Nice video again Deephack, I've been enamoured with the F-16C of late after buying it in the sales (too much fun flying on the new Syria map in IAF colours!) but I still always come back to the Harrier. VSTOL ops on the carrier are too much fun. Can't imagine how much of a jump it must've been for the chaps in the USMC, used to flying a subsonic ground attacker from the late 1970's to a supercruising gen 5 aircraft. I know the F-35 program has its flaws, but personally I think its a great looking plane and more capable than some give it credit for. It's almost fashionable for people to dunk on it now, just like people talked down the FRS.1 SHAR and GR.1 in its early days before it proved itself remarkably in the Falklands conflict.

    Thanks! From a technology standpoint I think the F35 is very cool. Unproven in combat so far of course and in some ways it is a compromised aircraft but then so is the harrier. If you want an aircraft which can takeoff and land vertically there is a lot you need to give up.

    Harrier is anything but a large helicopter. A helicopter the larger it gets the more stable it becomes. Harrier is anything but stable. Also you don't cool the nozzles. The problem is the turbines and all the other stuff that gets hot after the burning chambers. The nozzles is usually where you can measure the temperature (exhaust gases temperature) and make a correlation... if you have 900°C at the nozzles then it means the turbines are melting etc.

    Thanks for the correction. I should have mentioned the relationship between nozzle temps and engine temps. My comment about it being like a big helicopter was just in reference to the slow reaction to control inputs.

    @@deephack No problem. Is not a big issue. I think my comment was also a bit rushed and maybe came a bit harsh. I think it was soon after a forced ejection from a sinking Harrier :D :D

    Damn, I was hoping you would show us connecting the ins, I appreciate you talked about it. But that sounds like exactly what I’m doing, but I cannot get the counter on the ins sea to start moving for love nor money. Connected ground power and disconnected several times, selected dial to sea, but it just will not start moving. So I’m guessing I’ve missed a step, but i honestly have no idea what that is.

    You did switch to SEA after(!) you connected ground power? Then Data, A/C and then switch INS knob to SEA. The first position IIRC.
