In this DCS: AH-64D video, we’ll talk about use of unguided rockets. The AH-64D uses the M261 rocket pod with up to two pods per stub-wing. At early access release we’ll include the M151 high explosive, M229 high explosive 17-pounders, M257 illumination, M274 smoke, and M282 multi-purpose penetrator 2.75-inch rockets.
While it is possible for the CP/G to employ rockets, it is very seldom ever done outside of training. Rather, rockets are the domain of the pilot. The CP/G earns their keep by providing accurate laser ranging and steering commands to the pilot via the Rocket Steering cursor and TADS. This is termed coop mode, and I’ll show this later in the video.

The reason the rocket steering cursor moved right when you looked right is because HMD was the sight, and driving the the cursor. It assumes you're always looking at a target, and tells you which way to steer the aircraft to get on target.
Good shooting, Wags!

Wags, the complexity of this module is just great for groups of online friends to work together toward operating this beast. We cannot wait thank you so much.
You can feel the excitement! Great video, Wags--as always. Can't wait to try the Apache.
Thanks for including all the little extras in the video, it's always a lot of fun spotting them
Wonderful stuff. Great video. Many thanks Matt. Kind regards Nick
Great tutorial Matt, I look forward to flying the Apache and F4U Corsair in the South Atlantic Map, and I may never fly another map until something better comes out. Clear Skies
Again this is very easy to follow listening to what you are doing and watching the symbology movement to show what you are doing! keep em up, as daunting as it may sound when you blurt out what you are doing. Its easy to swallow and absorb what you teaching by listening and watching what you are clicking in the cockpit!

Head tracker is a good start for orienting your brain bucket in the general direction of the target (CUED LOS), but on a windy day, simply put your LOS on the CUED LOS, and steer the aircraft left or right as indicated by the I beam (rocket steering cursor). When the LOS, CUED LOS, and rocket steering cursor are on top of each other, pull the trigger. The Cueing Dots tell you which way to look to get on the CUED LOS when you're looking away from the target.

My god I need this already PLEASE god
Just got back from snowy northern MN to check on the crows at the wall. Now to absorb some more of Brother Wags' book of armaments vids on the Holy Apache of Antioch. There are many takeaways here...many...expansion of ground objects/targets for starters, a natural consequence of low level ops...
Hey wags will we be getting any updates on the closed beta on the forums like what’s going wrong what’s going right Can’t wait to get my hands on this module Thanks for all your work
Not too shabby. Firing rockets PLT HMD is definitely an art. Fixed mode and a steep dive angle will increase accuracy with less dispersion, as compared to a shallow angle.
Question: Can we expect to have the CPG's eyeroll animation synchronized with Casmo's voice included with early access, or is that going to come later? :D In all seriousness though we really appreciate everything you guys are doing
Thanks Wags, this will be a few afternoons :D But the george menu makes me wonder, will we need a 4-way/-5way hat for him like in the HIND? Or is he controlled differently

So to enter COOP the CPG only has to WAS up the rockets and then lase the target with the TADS?
Wags, will the sun shades above the instrument panel be moveable?
Cant wait. :)
Love the videos Matt but could you include the actual commands, maybe in the top right-hand corner, so once we get to play with this, we will have an idea as to the keyboard commands to bind?
So if I understand correctly the co pilot can laser range the target for increased accuracy
Love the SFX!! Does the apache have natural slip so it will always have fpv on right?
@MattWagner
2 жыл бұрын
That is how helicopters fly. It is just much more obvious in the AH-64 because of the FPV.
@Phvpark
2 жыл бұрын
all the helicopters has slip when flying especially in low speeds, even fixed aircraft has it with strong winds but much more less. fly the MI-24 and i guarantee its 5x worse, at least in the Apache the FPV helps to maintain center flight when doing runs
Remarkable!
Indeed, "This is the way" ;)
Awesome!
I have a question. Does the Apache fly more like the Blackhawk or the Huey? What I mean is, the Blackhawk's flight control system compensates for the most part for rotor torque, not requiring the pilot to have to constantly input pedal to counter that rotor torque. Whereas the Huey requires more pedal for more collective. When I fly the Blackhawk, I can pretty much let go of the controls and it stays on heading for the most part and I am wondering if the Apache is similar in it's flight characteristics. Thanks.
Oh new Video from Wags ! OK, first I need a Cappuccino ☕ and then I can enjoy the whole Video. 😋
The soldiers in the tents are gonna be upset at you, Matt! ;-) Knock knock. Who's there? Not our tent, anymore.
This is the Way, at 13:17. Was that added later or will our cpg say that when we have confirmed hits? Lbs
Great work ED on the AH-64. I am wondering what the method of selecting each rocket pods with zone type would be in the re-arming section. Would it be a case of having an already pre-configured rocket loads type or we would have the ability to load zones for each pods?
@sinsley1

@MattWagner

Because while the aircraft is in aerodynamic trim, the flight vector is off to the right (note the FPV). So, you need to compensate a bit. If there is wind, you'd also adjust your offset.
+ Absolutely love the Apache ever since playing Gunship on the ZX Spectrum in the 80's. Wonder how I'll manage to play this with a Warthog throttle and a Virpil Mongoose stick. I do have a spare X56 stick and throttle which has more buttons etc. Either way, I am going to be spending plenty of long, long nights learning this beauty.

Yep, we sure did.
Hey guys, please don't take this as criticism. Just an observation. . Noticed that in interior footage, the rotor shadows appear to move on the TADS sensor housing at the same rate as the blades. In reality, the pilot or any observer viewing with the naked eye (or even HMD) would not see a moving shadow UNLESS they were viewing via a camera where the frame rate would determine how fast that shadow (and the blades) appear to move. Is that correct?
When can we expect the manual for this beast? would be great to study it prior to the EA release

So to clarify the logic, the I beam is giving you steering cues based on where your HMD (sight source) is pointed?
@MattWagner
2 жыл бұрын
Except for COOP, set attack azimuth based on the headtracker, not the I-beam. Rockets don't care the azimuth angle of the HDU except for COOP. The I-beam is NOT a CCIP type aiming device.
