@@ChaosVultre yes, that's true. It's a small delay, but after that you enter a locked gate. It's a long time since I stopped building bases myself. I really enjoy the idea, but it's completely unbalanced - hours spent building it, but am intruder just have to spend very little time breaking in. Bases with a lot of loot did earlier make servers slow, which is a huge problem IMHO. And the worst part is that loot that rarely spawns was often hidden away in camps, maybe because of gear fear

To add on to burying stashes, you can also take a barrel and put it in chest high deep water and drop it there. It is invisible (you really would have to be looking for it to find it) and it's 150 slots per barrel. The only difficult part is actually getting the barrel where you want to hide it because it's so slow to move them around.

One of my favorite bases I ever built was in a school, a random classroom on like the 2nd floor. Just walled off the one room; invisible from outside unless I was inside with a light at night, in a building that generates very little loot and thus has little traffic. Just an FYI if you're playing on a community sever they more than likely have a discord. I've been playing Dayz since it launched on Xbox and all of the community servers I've played on personally have a heat map which shows other people on the discord server a map with dots that indicates player activity. It doesn't pinpoint your location but gives a general location of about 200m in diameter on the map. So even if you build at the very edge of the map, other players on discord will see the activity at said location and may become curious. Always check if your server has a discord and if the discord has a heat map.

I like the industrial buildings near VMC. They take a bit to secure but the walls can be hidden behind the buildings existing walls and doors. Big enough for the truck to get in and out, tall enough to build multiple levels inside and the ladder allows you to use the roof as a helipad or a sniper perch.

I like to use the big industrial buildings with the yellow pipes (e.g. in Novodmitrovsk, Cherno). The first floor is only accessible by ladder (or falling :D). Build a fence next to where people leave the ladder, it's quite risky to grenade those; you'd have to leave grenades and then snipe them or get on the ladder very quickly. Add another gate before the door and a third inside the room. Or, build on top of that building. One gate not too close to the ladder (or they will clip through). A second one as entry to the metal building on top. You're pretty exposed up there. Or build on top of the garage office at the docks in Berezino. You have to jump over from those yellow scaffolding things holding the pipe. Always look for place where raiders are exposed before they get in and have little to no room to move. You can easily defend a 2nd floor while you mate wrecks the gates one by one.

@@Nitno On top of the large oil tanks is also quite nice and offers little space to walk around. If the gate is on the far side of the ladder, it's extra fun. The little niche on the left of a military prison can be closed with one gate. A lot of people will not have the balls to start a raid in a milbase, but you might attract patient snipers. A more extreme one: In the Chernogorsk factory complex, walk to the roof of the cement factory with red walls. (7180.52 / 2870.93) Use the overpass / tunnel to cross and jump to either side (hp dmg!) If you jump over, a single player can't jump back! Two gates with some space between will, as always, lower the risk of a raid. Stage two is ruining the exit plan. The only way down is on the south side, by jumping onto the tunnel going down. This jump will again do hp damage. Use three gates in the middle section and one on the outside to block the exit path. Two players will be able to do humanstacking and bypass the gates, but unless they destroy at least three gates (2 entry + 1 exit) one raider will be left behind. Also, they will do it while standing in Cherno on a high ass building visible for everyone.

Just advice for those wanting to actually keep bases. Get friends. 3-4 American friends. Team up with a group of 3-4 UK friends so there is always ppl on just different play times. You’ll cross paths every so often if one or a few on the other side stay up late but essentially you’re never really playing together, just sharing a base so that someone’s is always there. I’ve done it, along with discord to converse. We play recreationally so it’s not serious, so when there is a raid we’d just post 🔴🔴 signifying raid happening. Most of us weren’t attached to the gear so it wasn’t no biggie if anyone got on. We just looted and restocked. It’s rare for someone to raid the SAME base lol

FYI, a lot of the locations that you are saying you just need one wall/gate, you actually need to add a wall on top to prevent players from easily boosting over the top. I single player can use a barrel or car to boost over and two players can use each other to boost over. The apartments have hidden rooms that you can easily get to by getting on the balcony rails. Not many players know of those hidden rooms, so they make for excellent long term base locations.

Bases are fun and all, but BI should consider adding other form of locking the gate like codelock. Or at least do an action when you want to open lock, so raiders can't brute force locks. And opening 3 or 4 gates is a little pain in a ass, when you have to use bikelocks. And tips from a raider - If your base has only 1 or 2 wall/gate to enter, we get into the base in 3 min. We usually have enough granades to raid, and if not - we are marking base on map and return when we get enough :). Second tip, don't use 3 dial locks, you can bruteforce them in 20 min so it's almost like no lock at all. Third tip - Make a gate with 4dial lock on every entry, and by every i mean EVERY entry - sometimes you can glitch to bases through windows or by jumpibg over gates etc, and if there is fence next to one entry, raiders can make gate from it or disasemble fence, so they can enter base from there. And don't use the same code on every lock, so raiders will have to break through gates, not just break first gate - check code on lock - open other gates with the same codes. And don't use codes that are different by just one dial, like 4169 - 7169 or 4169 - 4569. We usually cycle through to check, if lockcodes are similar. Uff, long post ;) Have fun guys in DayZ

A great post - any DayZ base can be broken into with enough resources and dedication, and the people who do so aren't dumb. I've got a base set up in a remote barn with three layers of security (working on a four layer will be my next project). Every now and then, I log in to find someone has either brute-forced one of the bike locks, shot through a fence, opened one of the exterior doors, etc, and decided it wasn't worth the effort. There's a few other cool tricks you can do: - Put your most valuable/irreplaceable items together. When you log off for the night, put them all in your inventory so you won't find them gone - You can set up gates inside buildings in a way that anyone trying to open the locks from the outside gets shredded with barbed wire. Barbed wire on top can also make it tricky to reach the lock - Assume that people will be able to find a way over fences (i.e., building watchtowers, getting boosted up, climbing on vehicles and tents, glitching, etc). Use barbed wire, multiple layers, build walls inside, etc - Change your codes frequently

My base is set up in a barn (the large kind with two huge doors, and two side doors). I actually developed it from an abandoned base that someone raided - three entrances were fenced off, there was a gate on the other, tents and crates inside, and he went through all the effort of lining the inside walls with more fences (so people can't see or shoot through). Problem is, raiders only needed to break through a single fence to break in to all the goodies inside. I've got a nice little setup now - a veggie garden fenced off on the outside, additional layers of fences protecting every entrance, barbed wire on the fences protecting the larger doors (it actually prevents people from unlocking them from the outside), a couple of internal security layers... all in all, anyone hoping to break in needs to destroy at least three fences, and/or unlock anywhere from 1-3 bike locks. Every now and then, I'll log in to find someone has brute-forced one of the locks or tried to break in through a fence, realised how much effort is needed to get in, and given up. To be fair though, I wouldn't ordinarily recommend picking a barn - it takes a lot of work and resources to get one set up properly, and unless you skimp on fortifications it'll stick out like a sore thumb.

I cant tell you how many times I have built a gate and locked it only to not be able to reach the lock to open it back up again. I built a pretty extensive base in a church and when I built the gate for the front door, the lock was just out of reach when I put it on. Had to walk away from a huge stash of weapons and gear. PS4 does not allow you to open them from the middle of the door like you can on PC. After making that mistake once, I learned that you need to put the right post down just inside the doorway you are blocking to ensure access from both sides. If you keep makig the same mistake and expecting different results, that is where you go wrong. Just think about the gate you are making, put down posts, check before continuing and don't be scared to take posts out of the ground if they need moving

@@Nitno Hey, Nitno, sorry to bother you but I saw you respond. My brother and I just started DayZ on Xbox, and we're looking to clarify bloody hands + gloves + cleaning animals with regards to getting Cholera. If you gutted with gloves on, do you need to take them off before eating (assuming your hands aren't bloody?) Or, can you clean & eat with gloves on? Same thing with drinking pump water with gloves. Oh, one more thing. How do masks, headgear, ski masks, etc get contaminated and how will you know, and if they do, how do you start warm without getting sick? We raid medical buildings & infected medical AI and RARELY get Tetra pills. Sooo painfully annoying! Thanks, my dude!

  • @Nitno

@@re1v3r Gloves basically make you immune to blood hands, so you can eat safely with gloves on + cleaning animals + eating. Same for water. Headmasks help when people around you are coughing (airborn sickness) but that's about it. Tetra can be rare, try checking the stuff around medical buildings too, like cars and nearby buildings.

Any tips for building bases in the woods so that they are harder to raid? I’ve built two so far in “secluded” areas but I keep getting found. Both times they broke in from outside. Will just grenading walls eventually break them? Sorry kinda new only a few months in

And now i am starting to think that building base is good idea to store stuff and if i die to pick them up later and not lose everything. But what happens if server restarts or some update happens? Do i lose everything in base and how long does stuff stays in base before getting wiped out? That's what worries me.

  • @Nitno

You don't lose things on server restarts. Most game updates do note wipe your stashes, the devs will announce ahead if it will. I'd suggest making hidden stashes with a shovel to start off.

Any idea why every time I build a fire pit out of wood it disappears before I can light it? It’s on a community server. Purgatory no zombie hi loot is the server. Then trying to build a rock fireplace won’t work either. Also why do they reset the server every 2 hours? Why do they do that so often

  • @Nitno

    @Nitno

    Жыл бұрын

hmm it's hard to say with a community server. Items disappearing is often a types.xml issue. 2 hour reset could be to help with performance, although 4 hour is more common.
