They’re having what’s called “gross-motor activities”, which is when the children are brought to a room or area where it’s safe for them to run, jump, and do large movement play. We would love to let them do that all day, but the main classroom setup, with all its shelves, toys and tables, it isn’t safe for them to run around. Where I live, all licensed daycares are required to have an indoor gross-motor room, so if the weather doesn’t allow outdoor play, the children can get the exercise they require. In this case, it’s a daycare inside a school, so the lucky daycare kids get the entire gymnasium!

@@1AmSwapnil I live in Canada, and was a daycare staff for ten years before becoming a private nanny. We have some good rules that all daycares have to follow, and all daycares must be licensed. Every daycare classroom is required to have a large blocks centre, a manipulatives centre(fine-motor skills(hand & finger coordination) such as dolls and toy animals), a house & dress-up centre, an art centre, a quiet-time centre with books that’s required to be in a quieter area of the room, and two sensory stations; a sand table and water table. Snack tables are to be used as play tables between eating times. An out-of-school-care must have all of these, along with a homework centre. Extra OSC centres like a computer or music centre to listen to music at on headphones are completely optional. Baby rooms are also recommended to have a child-safe mirror at ground level, as it’s good for the development of infants. A gross-motor area has to be accessible to both the daycare and OSC(if the daycare has one), and is required to have access to gross-motor toys, including gym mats. The children from both should be allowed outside play at least once a day, weather permitting. All rooms must stay in ratio, with a certain number of staff per number of kids present, age group depending. We even have laws covering how long staff are allowed to work without a break, and how long our breaks must must be per hours worked, as working at a daycare is a very physically, mentally and emotionally draining job. It’s one of those jobs you just can’t do well unless your heart is fully into it, and only about a third of newcomers in the career last more than five years before they either burn out, or decide to do something else. Dayhomes, however, which are in a house and have much fewer kids attending, aren’t always licensed, so we have to be careful to check before enrolling. We also have a law that any nanny, who cares for more than six children, is declared as running an unlicensed dayhome, for safety reasons. This includes if the kids in your care have friends over often, as you can’t not supervise the kids in your care without also watching who they’re playing with. Thankfully this rule on numbers doesn’t count if you bump into their friends in a public space, like the local playground. Unlicensed dayhomes can face fines if reported. This way the government assures that nannies aren’t overburdened, as at a certain point we can simply end up with too many kids to safely supervise.

@@kiddfaith4397 A regular school gym may not be right for young children in daycare. I don't see much adult supervision here, not in the video at least!

@@kaladwarakanath5503 It does look like the bulk of the staff have clustered up to discuss something. It can be really hard to tell parents and staff apart, since the “uniform” at most daycares is best described as “whatever you own that’s comfortable and casual, but looks presentable, and is safe to get utterly destroyed on a bad day”.

That daycare is a noisy nightmare. I'm sure those kids will become neurotic after two months of that. It's a friggin gymnasium, not an article of coziness and warmth in sight! Everything is hard enough to bust their little noggins!
