People keep suggesting leaving a rock peg as a marker for reversing back when returning to the driveaway awning, but as I park with the back nearside of the motorhome close to the pitch marker, as instructed on Caravan Club sites, I used that as my reversing guide. Also I'm not sure it's a good idea to leave a rock peg lying about, someone could trip over it, or puncture a tyre.

It was lovely to see Llanberis again. We stayed on the Morris Leasure site at Llanberis a couple of years ago and loved our time there. The Quarry Hospital is well worth a visit when open, we found the information there inside the building facinating. And it was all a 10 to 15 minute walk from the camp site! We will definitely be heading back there once everything is back to 'normal'. Thanks for a lovely trip down memory lane. Jonathan.

It was fantastic to see Vivian quarry again. We used to scuba dive there several times a year and have lots of happy memories. Some of the original quarry buildings are still intact at the bottom of that lake. One of which is the blast house, a very sturdy round building where they used to store the explosives. There's also a sunken cabin cruiser down there along with all manner of other interesting junk!

@@BobEarnshawMoHo I remember seeing the photos of how they did it. It was trailered through the entrance archway then craned into the water, towed out to the correct location and then scuttled to give the trainee divers something interesting to explore! There's a dive quarry near Lancaster called Capernwray which actually has a Cessna in it.

I love LLanberis, stayed at the LLanberis campsite several times. The slate museum is amazing, seeing how the big water wheel powered all the machinery. There is a little shop nearby and we had our house name made out of slate and it was posted on to us. Been on the little railway round the lake, and inside the hospital and up to the castle. Never tire of it! Only drawback, we couldn't go on the Snowdon railway as they don't allow dogs on there, only guide dogs. Really enjoyed this video, happy memories for me.

My husband is finally going to retire next year and as he loves driving (so do I) we decided we ought to try Motorhoming and see more of our own country! I have been watching lots of your trips, taking in all the advice on how to do lots of stuff! So next step is to hire one for a couple of weeks to see how we get on and then if we enjoy it as much as you two seem to, the next step is to get ourselves a second hand one and away we go! X Mind you some of the lovely new vans you have reviewed look amazing! We shall see! Thanks again!

I found this video and was amazed that you two didn't argue when all that work went on with your awning. My seventh wife and I always did, even on our first day of a holiday when we were caravanning. The worst time was when she was just about to give birth to our fifth child ........But we all move on. Now I have a Burstner M.H. and love it as I just close the door and drive away. You both obviously have grand children because otherwise there would be no use for the awning. I now suffer from P.T.S.D every time I look at an awning or even a two man tent or even a bag of tent pegs. Shouldn't have watched your video. Wanted to take extra medication but left them at home. Now I am in deep cold sweat and can't sleep.

A lot of what you see on European motorhomes is due to weight considerations. Many drivers are limited to driving up to 3.5 tonnes, so heavy automatic electric motors will only be found on larger motorhomes.

Hi Bob, great videos. This has probably been asked before but here goes - why do you use a water butt and a waste master in a motorhome?

  • @BobEarnshawMoHo

I tend to use the Wastemaster and the Aquaroll when we stay put on a site for 5 nights or more. Saves having to move the motorhome. Works well when we are attending shows at the NEC and we've brought the car with us.

Hi Bob, can I ask whether the awning is a Midline or a Highline please? I’ve measured my Fiat Ducato PVC to the channel on the Thule Omnistore awning at 239 cm (both front and rear) so it looks like I should get a Midline but I’m not really sure! Also can you please advise what type, length, etc., your driveaway awning kit is as I notice you also have a Thule awning. Many thanks in advance.👍

It's a midline version. The highline is more for overcab models. The driveaway kit is three lengths of around a meter plus about 4 metres of double beading fabric thing. The kits are fairly standard I think.

Another brilliant video Bob & Jenny. We live in North Wales but haven't seen the places around Lanberis! Went to Porthmadog in the car today ( Friday) so went on some of your route. Keep the videos coming Bob, love them. We are off in the van on 6th August, cant wait.

fortunately, driving is my thing. I drive a minibus as a job anyway. I do have one question. When you are on a service pitch, can you leave the water running connected to the motorhome or does the water overflow. Or what actually happens? Is it possible? Thanks, Andy

Do you sometimes think that Caravanning would be easier? We’re increasingly finding taking the van off-site is a bit of a ffaf. especially in the sometimes narrow roads of North Wales and we’re reluctant to tow with an A frame as it’s basically back to Caravanning. Overall we still think motorhoming is better, but there’s not much in it!

No, I think it's easier to tow something small with something big, but each to their own.

Hi Bob i put a rockpeg behind the rear wheel as i drive away. On return i reverse upto rock peg hey presto?

  • @BobEarnshawMoHo

    @BobEarnshawMoHo

    4 жыл бұрын

People keep suggesting leaving a rock peg as a marker for reversing back when returning to the driveaway awning, but as I park with the back nearside of the motorhome close to the pitch marker, as instructed on Caravan Club sites, I used that as my reversing guide. Also I'm not sure it's a good idea to leave a rock peg lying about, someone could trip over it, or puncture a tyre.

@@BobEarnshawMoHo I get my other half to watch me to reverse back to the marker. It doesn't have to be stuck up in the air? I put the rock peg in the center of the tyre & works every time and makes it easier to reattach our Vango kela which has the same connection as your own.

We thought the campsites in Wales were only opening today, 25th. Visited the slate museum years ago, really interesting. Did the steam railway at Blaenau, Snowdon, etc. We've the same driveaway, are you sure it wasn't condensation? We roll the driveaway bit under rather than outwards so it doesn't collect any rain. I learnt the hard way. Very soggy. Love to you 3.

Bob, should you not leave the pegs next to the van in the ground, so you have markers where to put the van when you return? And to keep the awning clean and dry you should roll it outside in and not inside out, if you know what I mean. Nice video again, Peter
