I watch Allison daily from our living room tv. I was so surprised to see her grandma speaking Spanish that I came here to say exactly this 😆 I agree with her grandma. There’s really no phrase like “Buen Provecho” in English. I always say “Hope you enjoy your food!” but it’s not the same. She explained the meaning very well which is a wish for your food to digest well. Loved that she included this in her blog today ♥️♥️♥️

Hey Allison, I had no idea you have a Latina background. Do open up and share that side of you if you're comfortable doing so. So many of your viewers are Latina's and understand exactly what "buen provecho" means. It's a prayer of good nourishment, a wish that what is consumed is a blessing to the body, mind and spirit. Your grandma was right when she said Americans don't have such a saying. We really don't. Many of us may say "enjoy your meal" which is not the same thing. Love your vlogs!

Your gammy is so right! In German we say “guten Appetit”; it can be loosely translated as “may it taste good”. There actually isn’t an English saying for that. Loved this vlog as always. Xx

Provecho is typically used to say “Enjoy” as you leave or wait for someone who is about to eat/is already eating 💪🏼

In Turkish, the equivalent of Buen Provecho is afiyet olsun. They said it alllllll the time. And no, the best English phrase like it would be “enjoy your meal” and really only wait staff say it and I’m guessing they rarely mean it 😅 I’m a Grubhub driver and when I bring the food, if I get to actually talk to the customer I’ll sometimes say enjoy. Your grandmother is right, we really have nothing that comes close to measuring up.

I’ve been so into making pickled onions too! I love how hot pink they get. I put them on Buddha bowls and big salads. Also whenever I make chocolate covered fruit I melt a little bit of coconut oil with the chocolate and it’s solidifies so smooth. 🤤 you didn’t ask but thought I’d share this tip 🥰

Great blog Allison, thanks for sharing your day. This morning after watching it, I made a jar of pickled onions too. They can make so many dishes even better. I’m going to use a few in my Sicilian Orange salad later for Lunch. I love this light and refreshing dish and it always reminds me of home. You should give it a try. Super easy and so good. There are a few variations, but I usually use what I have on hand. Sliced oranges (which I’m sure you have plenty of there), sliced onions (or pickled in this case), sliced black Italian or Greek olives, salt, pepper, olive oil, and a splash of red wine vinegar. Since you have the picked onions in there you may be able to omit it, but give it a taste and go from there. You can also add some sliced fennel bulbs (very Sicilian). Enjoy
