    I commend these MTIs. Considering all the scrutiny now, and the difficulty to even get vectored for the job, they truly live by the core values.

    Thanks for enlisting. Enjoy the Air Force. I spent 22 years and enjoyed every minute, even when I was on 1 year deployments w/o my family. Just listen to your TI's. They might yell, but in the end of 8 1/2 weeks you will be ready for the real Air Force. Good Luck

    Take it day by day. First week you're there you'll probably be regretting it and wanting to leave but just keep your head up and push through. You'll meet some people from all walks of life and have an experience a lot of other people haven't had.

    ***** Back in 1973, I remember a few MSgts running BMT flights. In that day, a few made E-7 before their Lackland BMTS assignment was over, and they opted to finish their BMTS stint. Afterwards, they either returned to their old AFSC, or re-trained to a new one...very few were old enough to retire. Once in a while, a superintendent E-7, E-8, or E-9 will "borrow" a flight for a day to see first-hand what's up in the field.

    +Clayton Johnson Because of the scandals in recent years, fewer NCOs are applying for MTI positions. Therefore, the AF can now mandate that any NCO be assigned to a tour at Lackland.

    +antares4s Sort of.....nobody really "applies". I was selected by my chain, which is the new process. You have to be a TSgt or MSgt and meet several criteria.

  • @antares4s

    @antares4s

    Michael Esarey Nobody applies cause it can be a really touchy duty. Way to easy to get into trouble over nothing with Trainees being able to file complaints. So they have to draft people now. Another case of over reaction to what happened.

    United States Air Force Did I hear it correctly that USAF BMT is 7 1/2 weeks in length? I was told by my recruiter that it is 8 1/2 weeks?

  • @carbinewolf

    ***** technically it's 8.5 weeks, but your final week there is just outprocessing. Just basically staying out of trouble

  • @antares4s

    @antares4s

    9 жыл бұрын

    +Ted Munyer Your Recruiter is correct. BMT is 7.5 weeks (as a trainee) + an additional week known as Airman's week for a total of 8.5 weeks. The last week you receive more privileges than a trainee and attend a series of briefings concerning the operational Air Force.

    It's a shame that the basic training today is nothing like it used to be before the scandals.... All's it takes is one trainee to say "he/she touched me" and that MTI's career is screwed. Mostly the reason I got out. The generation we were getting straight out of boot were undisciplined as hell. They feared no rank at all. When I got out of BMT, I feared anyone over E-3.... Good job Air Force, you've over corrected the issues and I've seen great NCO's get out due to the new "why" generation coming in to the ranks...
