DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EXCHANGE STUDENT IN TAIWAN // National Taiwan University (NTU)

hi! I am planning on applying as an exchange student at NTU soon. May I know what procedures you've done to get in? also, incase if you applied for a scholarship there, what scholarship did you apply for? after watching this, I became more interested on applying at NTU. thank you
Hi, I’m going on an exchange to NTU in the fall semester and I was wondering whether there are events for international students where we can meet the other exchange students and make friends:)

Hi Kata! I'm so glad to hear that you are going on exchange to NTU this fall :) Yes, there are lots of events to meet other exchange students. NTU hosts several events at the beginning of the semester for exchange students, so definitely go to those and also My Room Abroad is an organization dedicated to helping exchange students feel at home and they run lots of fun events at the beginning of each semester too so follow them on social media! Hope you have lots of fun :)

Question
Hey! I'm super interested in Chinese classes at NTU too. Were they taught in traditional only? I only learned simplified Mandarin so I'm worried about being placed in level 1 because I never learned traditional.
@AdultingwithAngela
2 ай бұрын
Yes, they were all taught in traditional but my Chinese teacher let us submit homework and write in simplified if that is what we were comfortable with. Hope this helps!
Hey... hope you are doing well:) I have been selected as an Intern at NTU. I would like to know which is the cheapest dorm to afford for my stay. What would be your suggestion to stay on campus or off campus? Your guidance and suggestions will really help me a lot. Thank you for your reply in advance.

Classes are taught in traditional, but if you are more familiar with simplified, most of the Chinese teachers let you write in simplified for tests and stuff.
Heyyy! Fellow Canadian here as well, thinking about applying to NTU for the Winter Semester next year, I study Business Management as well. How did you find the off-campus housing? I might have to look into it, seems like on-campus housing is scarce as of now.
@AdultingwithAngela

Hey! I found mine through a family friend, but my other exchange friends who lived off campus found their places through My Room Abroad. Tbh, they are kinda overpriced so I suggest booking an airbnb or smth short term for the first week or two and looking for a place when you get there to get better and more affordable options. Hope this helps and have fun at NTU!!

@@AdultingwithAngela thank you for your answer! As two follow-up questions if you don't mind, how were the classes in general? I am in a Finance concentration so I will most likely take Finance courses. You said the teachers were knowledgeable, so that's re-assuring. Did the exchange students spend a lot of time with each other only or were there integration with local students in terms of social activities and such (I speak Mandarin) ? Thank you so much!!
@AdultingwithAngela

@@GazerPVPmc Hey! I thought the core business classes were about the same level as my home university (McGill), except they were all pass/fail for me on exchange so I didn't study as hard. @@paulamartyna4581 Hi Paula! I was originally supposed to study at CUHK in Hong Kong but because of the protests happening, it was cancelled by my university. Hi! I'm thinking of doing my master's degree in Design at NTU, but I literally know no Chinese at all. I'm thinking of trying to teach myself some before I go there, but I'm worried my low level is going to be a problem. How have you experienced this? Are all classes completely in English? How is the level of English amongst the students and teachers? much love xx
@AdultingwithAngela
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Liz! Not all classes at NTU are taught in English, most are taught in Mandarin, so you'll have to see what English courses are offered. I studied business so there were lots of course options for me, but I'm not so sure about your program. For English classes, all my teachers and classmates were proficient in English, but some Taiwanese students in the English classes are understandably more shy and hesitant to speak in English. Hopefully this was helpful, I wish you all the best!

Hi Angela! Thank you for this awesome video! May I ask you what are the module codes that you have studied while in NTU? I saw this: "Restriction: within this department (including students taking minor and dual degree program),The upper limit of the number of NTU students: 60." for quite a few management modules on their website, do you know if this mean that it is not offered to exchange students?
@AdultingwithAngela
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Winnie! So sorry, I don't remember the codes but I took financial management, operations management, intermediate chinese and global market management. And no i don't think that that means it is not offered to exchange students. I think most classes are open to exchange students, the message is just a general limit of how many students can be in each class. Hope this helps!
