I personally feel over the top production like this detracting form the content. The video would have the same overall information in half the time without all the fancy transitions and explaining what we are about to see seconds before actually seeing it... I came here to learn about a skill and watch these people do their work not to see an overly dramatized _show_ but to each his own.

I applied for an apprenticeship yesterday as well, I don’t have any experience so I doubt they’ll hire me. Although I’m currently studying Power Transmissions & Distribution to help me get my foot in the door, I hope you got the job!

I worked on a line crew for Mountain Bell (remember "the Phone Co."?) during my summers while attending college on Colorado. This series really takes me back. Kudo's to these POWER linemen! I only had to deal with a max of 60volts. Mistakes could kill any of us but the "Power" guys faced it every day - all day.

I swear I would watch this show. Just got a job as an assistant project manager at PAR Electric so trying to familiarize myself!

Really fun and illuminating. I get it: no two days are alike; no problem is ever exactly as expected.

Good job. I like the way you guys kinda made it look like the Ice Road Trucker show.

I am from Bangladesh I am a line man. This is a very dangerous job. You have to be ready for duty in 24 hours.

They need to do Los Angeles department of water and power. So much crazy stuff, everyday, high traffic, crazy homeless, it's worth the watch

Jacksonville Electrical Authority (that's Jacksonville Fl.) requires you to take the TABE test before being hired on. Do any other electrical companies require applicants to take this test and if so, what level of the test are they required to take, as the TABE test has different difficulty levels.

Lorenzo Foreman there’s all kinds of ways, contracting is ideal way for getting into it, it’s harder to get on at a power company. You can just find out your local union halls and go sign the books, you’ll start as a groundman and work your way up while you wait for a call from whatever apprenticeship region you are in. There is also non union, which is what I work, I like the company I work at, I would say it’s about as good as non union gets, at least in my region

They should show a union. It’s a little different

A quick shout out to the guys that have to do the “hand digging “. for the power poles …. There are a lot of locations that can’t be reached with equipment…. .. and there are methods. to set a pole by hand ……. Been there. Done that …. Cheers guys. …. SAFTY FIRST …. have a fun day …. Oh yea setting “anchors” By. Hand is a bit of an art ..as well. …. :o).

COOPs have it made. They're out at the ends of the distribution system in the country. Work in the city and you'll do twice or three times the work cause you don't drive 60 miles.

Jared Adams depends on the company and the ground you’re putting it in. I know for aep it’s like 4 feet in solid rock and 6 and a half for normal dirt

the immigration process would be the biggest factor. but if you have a decent amount of money to pay for lineman school you can become an apprentice relatively fast 4-6 months. i wouldn't give up on it.

Jared Adams I’ve seen some with one but it’s pretty uncommon. These trucks are already pack full of stuff and in order to use the welder someone on the crew would be certified. Also they want the equipment to be in top shape so one with a welded break wouldn’t cut it.

Chubby672 In some urban areas all you do is climb, because Easement where Line are located is behind homes. In rural areas, you are able to use a Truck. But here is a kicker to your point. When we get heavy storms here in SE Michigan, we will get mutual assistance from out of town Lineman. And because they do not climb often enough, when they come here, that fact becomes Painfully apparent to us. This is not an Indictment on them as Lineman, it’s just a reality of where they work. Who Zaskin hours and pay depend on where you’re working and if you’re union or a rat. I work 40+ every week and make $52/hour. Plus when I hit hurricanes or big storms it’s 7 days a week 16 hour days for double bubble.

The bad thing is that most of those linemen are overweight and overload many of those buckets. Some of those buckets are only rated to 500 lbs to 600 lbs. You add two fat fucks that weight 250 to 300 lbs. each, plus the weight of the liner (50-60 lbs.)and tools, that makes it an unsafe condition. However, there are no weight standards for lineman.

Really hate the jumping around. You're not deadliest catch.
