I loved the idea of having Google forms for attendance! I think I might incorporate that into my physical classroom, as I will (hopefully) become a 1st year high school English teacher this fall! I would like to see a video about curriculum mapping/planning a unit from start to finish ☺️☺️☺️

As a first year teacher I just create a google doc, copy and paste all my meetings and important stuff I have to do, print it out and pin it behind me on my board I honestly don’t have the energy or time to write by hand nor do I have time to flip pages But that’s just me. Do what works best for you. This works for me

OMG I know that feeling!! When I was in my grad year I was so desperate to find people out there talking about what it's actually like! I'm sure you've already heard of her but the main person I looked to was Brittany Sinitch from the fivefootoneteacher, she's incredible. I also loved Ms. Julia Hong, idk if she still makes videos but just another incredible teacher out there. One thing I do want to say is that the fact that you are out here researching and connecting and working to become the best teacher you can be, that shows that you're already on the right path. You already care, you already have goals, and that's no small thing. You're going to be amazing and your kids are going to feel right off the bat how much you care about them.

I recognize this school! One of my best friends went here!! I wont say it to protect your privacy but I love seeing new and young teachers so passionate about teaching. We know our county desperately needs it!

Next year will be my first official year as an English 11 teacher :) I spent the 2020-2021 school year sharing a classroom with a mentor teacher while I work through my masters (grant program!), so it won’t be all new, but it’s going to be different for sure. I love your energy and am excited to watch more :)

AHH omg!!! That's so exciting, you're gonna be amazing!! All of your hard work is so worth it! Make sure to allow yourself some judgement free time to get your footing, you've absolutely got this and your students will love you! The first bit can be challenging but it's all an opportunity to step into who you really want to be as a teacher!

I start student teaching in fall and this is really helping me ease my nerves!

I live a nice drive away from my school too but one thing I am grateful for is being able to go to the shops ect and not see the children out haha definitely a plus! It's also sad that all the productions aren't able to go ahead yet but hopefully they'll be back soon! 🌸

Love this video. Would love to have teacher exchange program , I guess it going to be very exciting as you can see the difference between your own classroom with the classroom from the other countries. As for example, high school in america is literally like college setting as the students have different classes for different subjects but at other countries, high school students just sit at one specific class for most subjects.

Yeah it really interesting. We have had american teachers also back before this pandemic. They're all under US ETA Fullbright program, if you have heard it before. They came here to teach, share their experiences, mingle around with locals, its so amazing to know them.

OMG. So fun you graduated from jmu. I'm studying English and minoring in secondary ed there and will graduate with my undergrad this upcoming spring. I'm excited for grad school. :)

I’m teaching now! I got hired as a long term sub for 2nd grade ELA and reading :) it’s been a rough year so far - still studying to take my certifications while teaching full time - also these students were in Kinder during covid so this is their first full year back and it’s been a rollercoaster. I love the kiddos but I think I want to be with an older bunch 😢 Hope your year has been well!!

I'm starting my teaching credential program next year and feeling so nervous! I absolutely love working with students but feel like I'm not the best English candidate! I'll be getting my BA in English but don't love it as much as I love the idea of being a teacher. How much of your English learning in college do you feel like is important or actually applicable in a high school classroom?

That’s such a great question!! First off, I want to say that the fact that you love working with students is the biggest, most important thing. That’ll stay at the core of everything you do and it’ll guide you in times when you’re not sure what decision to make or how to handle a situation. The fact that you love the kids and genuinely enjoy working with them means the most. But in regards to your question, for me it’s been something I’ve used a lot just as background resources or skills in guiding kids to make connections and reference good texts. It can also be really helpful if you’ve taken a children’s or young adult literature course. That way you’re able to give better book talks and help kids who maybe don’t love to read as much find books that really speak to them. As far as grammar and all that it great you’ll have a background in it but you’ll have guidance on what you’re teaching and everything is google-able if you forget it. All of your training and classes and everything will tie in to your teaching in funny little ways so it’s all helpful! Good luck, you’re gonna do amazing!! ❤️❤️❤️

So excited for you!! Keep an open mind and make an effort to step out of your comfort zone! Each step/phase of teacher ed programs are designed to give you the best experiences they can offer, for me the tutoring phase helped me to gain a lot of confidence in my ability to teach any subject not just the content I was focused on making a career out of. You’re helping to guide kids through the process of learning and how to engage with materials. (Ex: I’m not good at math but I know how to help a student figure out how to check their work and take their time, where to look for relevant supporting info in a textbook or other resources, etc). Hopefully this all makes sense and helps to calm your nerves a little! All in all you’re gonna do great and I’m so happy for you! Keep me posted on your journey! 💗

Oh my goodness thank you so much!! That's so exciting! Definitely a tough choice, but what a strength though that you excel at both!! There are so many routes you could take for this but one thing I'm fairly sure of is that you could take the praxis for each and become certified to teach them both if you wanted to! If you would rather pick one between the two, my advice would be go with the one that sparks so much joy in you that it's contagious! You've got this, wishing you all the best!!
