    Never start at the face first. Always start from the back to let the dog get use to the water.

    I do head last because when the head is wet is when they really want to shake, so I put water on the head last so I can move out of the way while they shake.

  • @byuftbl

    But then I shampoo head first and down the body and rinse the soap from the head and squeeze the ears out so they can shake again without tons of water flying outside the tub

    Grooming is hard work. It's so much more than just bathing a dog. This puff piece don't even begin to explain what a groomers job is. I can tell you that it is one of the least respected jobs of the trades. The customers will make a groomers life miserable. And some of the dogs are very uncooperative. Think about it seriously before going into this field.

    @@saramations ??? How do you mean? How can they say you ruined a dog by bading and brushing. I could imagine yelling because of shaving or clipping the dog. But I make sure the owner assesses the situation with me before doing any clipping or shaving

    That's usually a 3 hour dog, depending on if there's matting, if the dog is aggressive or scared etc. This was a perfect dog and an owner that actually takes care of their dog. Very unreal.

    Why did you not brush the dog out first before bathing?

  • @byuftbl

    @byuftbl

    7 жыл бұрын

    Dragonfly's Discoveries It depends on the equipment you have. In a groomers case we have high powered dryers that blow the coat out, and if the dog isn't matted then it can be bathed first and then blown out while brushing or I even just blow the main loose hair out. Also depending on if it has matts, some are just "dirt matts" which may be easier to brush out when the dog is clean because the dirt is out and not holding the matt together. Matts that are tight and caused by not brushing or bathing and not drying it afterwards. Then you may need to shave before the bath, or split the matts and brush with a slicker just enough to get large clumps separated, then use conditioner on the matts they will brush either. That's why it's a skilled profession, you need to know how to handle all coat and matt types and what method will work best on that particular dog.

    I hate when grooming salons say they have master groomer WHEN they do not have " real" Master Groomers. Go to NDGAA OR PGA and see how few REAL MASTER GROOMERS there are!! I am a NDGAA Nationally Certfied Master Groomer one of only 9 in NJ that I know of. I have shown dogs made dogs champions and even qualify to apply to be a AKC judge. Schools give out master certificates they print on there printers usually for extra money. But they have not done the work, do not have the knowledge, and have not passed the written and practical test in front of multable examiners. It Pissed me off big time when people call themselves master groomers and they are just knock offs.
