Such a pretty festival . And I would have bought all the plushies, sad to say, at the Ghibli store. Or, all the planters out front. And you looked so pretty, and elegant in your new ghee (?). I loved the color scheme. You make me smile. 🙂
An older Japanese woman taught me to always remember "Leftover rice" to remember left over right while we were living there! It has always helped me to keep it straight for my yukata and kimono and even my jinbei!

One thing I've learned from cats is that the cuter they are, the more miserable you are. My cat back when she was a kitten often made my day a lot harder but as she grows up, she gradually getting calmer and more snuggly, though she's no longer a kitten. I had to make a trip to kitchen ware store twice in a week cause that lil bugger knocked the dishes I'm washing off the damn counter, twice in that week. Don't get fooled by their cuteness, you fell for it on your own peril.

Thank you for sharing your footage from this festival! My husband and I got engaged in Japan during Tanabata and loved the tradition so much we incorporated it into our wedding - we tied our own wishes to bamboo during our ceremony and asked our guests to tie wishes to bamboo as a guestbook. We did attend a festival in Tokyo during our visit and it was so fun! So this made me think of lots of happy memories! 🥰🎋

I really like how the Japanese always have a story behind their public holidays. Over here in Australia, we only get a public holiday when the footy is on, when teachers can't be bothered teaching and want a three day weekend and when the queen has a birthday every 8 weeks.
Sharla, the music you choose for your videos is always so perfect, just so chill and mellowing. Keep it up.
I love that there is a beautiful festival to enjoy "just because" of a cute romantic and kind of sad story. What a great excuse to dress up, decorate, and gather! Looks amazing, thanks for taking us with you!
Sharla your yukata was gorgeous 💕 I really love the koi and the accessories 💕 I hope you are having a nice summer 🥰 PS.: Tuna is super cute 🥰 and he has grown so much already hahaha mischievous Tuna as Chris called 🤣🥰
Chris at the end waving like crazy got me 😂
Thanks for putting the music list down in the description!
Lol love Chris’s awkward wave at the end!!
It's so cute and nice knowing that you and Chris are dating here and Tuna is gorgeous😍!!
Such a sad but cute story of the two lovers. Love that the festival is fun though since it is celebrating the one day they could meet and be happy!!! I really love the backstories to most of the festivals and how it is celebrated.
Any time Sharla uploads a vlog is a good time! 💜🎉
Be me, watching the Tanabata decorations and start to cry a little, because they are so beautiful... The cranes really made me tear up the most. I hope everyone had a great Tanabata and a lovely time with family and friends. ~
Girl, your nails are always on point & you look totally adorable in your Yukata! 💜💅
Tanabata is my favourite Japanese Holiday too (but I could be biased because it’s my birthday!) It’s interesting that Sendai tanabata is a different date (August 6th-8th) to the rest of Japan (July 7th)! Your new Yukata is really beautiful! 😻

Here to talk about trivia although no one asked for it! The old lunar calendar runs about a month later seasonally than the Gregorian western calendar. When the western modern calendar was adopted, there were two camps of thought. One camp including the people of Sendai said let's keep celebrating things around the same time of year. This also goes for many regions in Asia observing Lunar New Year in what is approximately February on the Gregorian calendar. The other camp including the Japanese government said that since celebrations with repeated odd numbers like New Years (January 1st), Hina-doll festival (March 3rd), Children's day (May 5th), Tanabata (July 7th), and Cho-yo chrysanthemum festival (September 9th) are celebrated in part to ward-off the bad luck of too much Yin energy, it should be celebrated on the day with those numbers on whatever calendar everyone is using at the time. Hence, the Japanese national holiday of Children's day is held on May 5th. Thanks for reading my unwarranted bit of trivia.

Tanabata was traditionally celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th Lunar calendar month of which the exact date differs each year on the western calendar! Each Lunar calendar month has 30 days, the 1st is always a new moon and the 15th is always a full moon! (Sometimes plus or minus one day in the west due to time zone different, say sometimes it's was full moon a day early on 14th in the UK but full moon on 15th in Hong Kong)
I really appreciate you keeping the background noise in the video, it made it so much more atmospheric 😊
I really can’t wait until I can go to Japan to experience a festival like this.

It’s my 30th wedding anniversary and my husband and I are at home sick with COVID. Such a disappointment but this video really cheered me up. The festival was beautiful and so we’re you!
Tanabata has always been the dream festival for me. I hope I can visit Sendai in time for it one day 🎋✨ Seeing all of those cranes and their message really moved me, so overall I was feeling very misty eyed up until the restaurant scene where they started making all of that birthday chaos! As a puertorican it was a very familiar level of noise and antics 😹 Thank you for always taking us to these wonderful sights and experiences with you! For those of us that can only dream of traveling, it makes us feel like we were part of the fun and the magic. 😸💕
