I know all the content however I find my essays are always in the middle levels due to my bad word expression. Any recommendations? I also have dyslexia so i will lose most SPAG marks

  • @SmileWithSola

    @SmileWithSola

    Жыл бұрын

    I know this sounds hard but pretend that it is a practice paper you’re doing in your house. Block out the noise and the other people and do breathing exercises. When writing, if you find that you start panicking and rushing, take a moment to recollect yourself then continue. Skim over paragraphs at the end to ensure you find mistakes and ask your friends / family to check your work to tell you your common mistakes so you’re more aware of it. At the end of the day, it’s only 4 marks for spag so also just focus on the quality of your work rather than making all the words and grammar perfect. You’ve got this 💕

    so for Macbeth and Jekyll and Hyde would 3 paragraphs in lots of detail be ok for a grade 9 so 2 on the extract 1 on the wider text and a conclusion my teacher says it has to be 4 paragraphs with 2 on the extract and 2 on the wider text and a introduction and a conclusion to get a 9 but under time pressure I probably wouldn't be able to write that much and lose my analysis and you said quality over quantity but I'm still worried that I wouldn't be able to reach a 9 if I don't write the amount the examiner wants me to write

  • @SmileWithSola

    @SmileWithSola

    Жыл бұрын

    You don't get marked based on how much you write. You could write 2-3 amazing paragraphs, linking to the extract and the wider text in the same paragraph and get a grade 9. It's all how you incorporate it and make it link back to your point and the question. Don't focus on writing pages of potentially low quality work, focus on writing high quality, deep analysis rather than rushing. You've got this and believe in yourself! If you can't write a lot, don't force it - write great quality.

    do not lose hope or despair a family member of mine had a grade 2-3 in the english mock and ended up getting a 7 in lit and a 6 in lang! she told me she only used around 4 quotes in one of her essays Also can anybody please give me feedback on this short essay about macbeth (its incomplete) it would be much appreciated In the tragic play Macbeth, Shakespeare employs Macbeth as a violent character who is determined to gain power even if that means through corruption, linking to the idea of Macbeth’s biggest flaw being gluttony; the desire to have more just to satisfy his “vaulting ambition”. This has corrupted macbeths innocence, turning him into an intemperate villain who has caused nothing but blood, sweat and tears amongst others so that he could fulfill his selfish needs. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth is seen fighting enemies as he “smok’d with bloody execution”, giving connotations of masculinity and bravery that was widely encouraged and praised during the Jacobean Era. The words “smok’d” and “execution” highlights how heroic Macbeth is towards defending his land and people as well as the king, which was seen as being incredibly honorable. The adjective “bloody” shows how brutal and tyrannical Macbeth is, which also suggests how protective he is over the king, showing the audience that he has some sense of comradeship and loyalty within him as he would also “ne’er shake hands, nor bade farewell” to his enemies. This quotation paints Macbeth as being a dedicated person to his king and also shows a sense of respect he has for him as he would never shake the hands of an enemy, which would come under the ruling of Lèse-majesté - a term used for those who would go against the monarchy or cause offence. As the play progresses, Macbeths gluttinous desire for power becomes more apparent as he turns more violent. In Act 2 of the play, Macbeth can be seen committing the crime of Regicide; a huge crime that is extremely sinful and believed to earn you a place in Hellfire as a Punnishment from God, as it is mentioned in the Bible that “thou shalt not kill” - especially a king. Before he has committed the deed, an owl can be seen shrieking, which is symbolism and a foreshadowing of misfortune and danger. It also alludes to the idea of macbeth being doomed as he is now trapped within the witches prophecies, and will end up having it turn back on him, which was could have been Shakespeare’s way of warning the audience not to go against the king or you will have it backfire onto you.

    It’s pretty good, well done. Just something generic, add it specific techniques overall, such as metaphors, personification etc. talk about the point conceptually, before drilling into analysis and context. Focus on multiple interpretations for one quote or ref as this could strengthen you point even more, but only when it’s relevant. I like that you know good context of the play with your numerous quotes too. Keep it up!
