Oh - I enjoy the way Somewhere hikes her hike - and love seeing the different ways to do it. My style would be closer to hers than yours, and I love seeing that both ways work :)

That was funny . . . Maybe it was someone else that forgot to pay(??) I forgot to pay for dinner once on trail because the group I was with got up to leave and I just forgot that I had not paid and remembered when I was out in the parking lot. I could have called it in and used a payment app but I ran back and missed the bus for doing it. The waitress at the restaurant let me spend the night on her couch. That was soooo cool of her. This was in Quincy back in 2019. I saved way more than the cost of dinner because I did not have to pay for a hotel that night.

I was surprised Bougee needed a burger so badly as he has been off trail and eating regular food for a few days. Glad you told your followers not to complain to restaurant about an honest mistake! My wife and I visited Sierra City a few years ago due to all the hikers raving about the town. It is special. We ate at the same Cafe. Happy Birthday as I continue to enjoy your commentary and reflections on life.

Happy Big Four Oh Birthday to you!! ❤ Such a cool little town, I bet Sierra City gets a lot of $$ from the PCT hikers in the summer. It pays to be nice to customers by giving them rides. Referrals in the community mean a lot so the double charge was not deliberate.. Scott is a smart but forgetful businessman :) Pretty soon you take a big curve East around Mt Shasta (a volcano) and you will be on the east slope a while then back to the west. Have fun!

Happy Birthday 🎉 Your now hiking a section of PCT in most familiar with in California, from Sierra City to Quincy and Chester. My wife's family brought the first cattle there in the 1840s-50s to feed the miners and continued to summer there for generations. It's a great fly fishing area, especially all the lakes coming up in tomorrow's video, and there are great fishing lodges with fancy chefs and wonderful menus. I hope your birthday was wonderful 😊

Interesting. I checked out Sierra City as one of your potential town stops. Close to trail and appeared to be a great stop. Using google maps/street view gives you an idea of the town including he Red Moose

Yep, that's how water pumps work. Not very convenient for filling a bottle rather than a bucket though

Sierra City is famous for giant Pastrami Sandwiches not for burgers . . . just sayin' They make them at the store, not the restaurant. I love Sierra City. The guy that owns the Motel is nice as well.

It seems like somewhere has a lot more personal freedom to "live her life" on trail while you are sort of caged yourself to a tramily concept. This might be what you want and what makes you happy. For sure. But occassionaly in videos, it actually shows you're not entirely in peace with this. Seems like you haven't evolved (yet?) to be a solo thru hiker. Which is fine of course. It's a personal preference as usual. But just feels sometimes you are looking to break free out of more comfort zones and grow. And this tramily thing is definitely holding you back. I might be wrong about all of this of course. Doesn't really matter. Be happy. Oh yeah, and you definitely are a towns hiker. You are going to way too many towns for my taste. It looks like you brought the AT with you to the west. 🤣

There’s a difference between being a generally honest person (esp on issues that really matter, like fidelity in a relationship) versus being an anal, super-strict, extremely punctual inflexible person. Words have meaning in CONTEXT, including the historical context of a culture. In Latin American cultures, if people invite you for a party at 8 pm, nobody will show up until 9 thirty or 10. If you actually show up at 8 pm, you’d like annoy the host, or they’d assume you came early to help prepare, and that would only make sense if you’re family or very close friend. Furthermore, people who want the freedom and flexibility could just caveat everything they say with “ok, let’s make it ‘soft-plans’ that we’ll do XYZ” and maybe say everything with 10 pages of fine-print like you’d find in an iPhone update to the contract-of-service. No, we don’t need to qualify everything we say to provide that freedom. The problem isn’t Somewhere’s desire for flexibility on trail; it’s anybody else’s demand that all people always use words in a manner that is as strict as possible rather than recognizing the flexibility qualification that is in everything said and done. If there’s ever a time in life where people can and should be spontaneous, it’s on a trail. That’s why in the Arab Muslim world, ALL future plans are qualified with “God willing”, b/c human plans can always go awry that we cannot foresee in the present. RR needs to learn that she’s the one violating social norms (by the standards of most countries in the world).

@@Hikingin70sshorts huh? You’re the one ranting. Maybe go back and read my many complimentary comments about RR and her hike over the months. I’m providing clarity for her and her viewers on a disconnect/miscommunication on her cultural expectations versus that of most people in other cultures. It relates directly to what RR was saying about Somewhere. And perhaps has to do with whatever caused the split with Lil Chap (seems like there was miscommunication related to differences in expectations). RR is German, and culturally on one far end of a spectrum on this topic compared to, say, Latin America. Muslim-Arabic countries handle all expectations with a “God willing” to acknowledge the uncertainty of future events. Seems like you are easily ‘triggered’ as the kids say nowadays. If you are ‘completely offended’ by my rational, fact-based and innocuous comments, then perhaps go talk to a specialist about your hypersensitivity.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me personally to go on a journey to free yourself from the "grind" (as she said yesterday) and then regiment your trek just like the "grind" but everyone should do exactly what they want in their adventure, hence the worn out, tired axiom 'Hike your own hike'. I feel Somewhere is probably doing it how I would. She will have no regrets of what she missed out on by being limited to a Tramily and it's constraints while also have the benefit of having a tramily when she wants.
