May I know what was your real rating when you started? Btw I'm also at 1600 and trying to reach 2000.

@@ChessEloQuest-dz3id You were unrated‽‽‽ Most people start at like 400. That's insane.

@@ChessEloQuest-dz3id For me, I casually played during 2018-2021 and was around 1300 then I quit for 2.5years. I returned to chess competitively in April this year because I became the leader of the chess club in my school. It took me 3 months to regain my skill and grind to 1600. The main reason it didn't take me long is that I'm still a teen, so I'm naturally tactically stronger. Apart from tactics, you need to balance your other skills such as positional play in order to improve on the whole. Make sure you choose openings that suit you. For a tactical player like me, I recommend open positions such as the scotch or the sicilian. I do NOT recommend the italian or ruy lopez as there's a ridiculous amount of theory at the higher level. For positional play, I suggest the caro kann or d4 positions. I used to play caro kann and catalan before I quit and when I returned to chess, I explored a bit and realised I should play openings with more tactical middle games. I do NOT recommend the french even though it's positional, simply because games will be dead and drawish all the time. Do not bother playing gambits and traps as they only give an advantage if your opponents make a mistake. However, still make sure to know gambits and traps to make sure you don't fall for them yourself. Reaching 1500 is honestly just about not making one-move blunders and finding the opponent's hanging pieces. Above 1500, you need to learn to punish positional mistakes and make good game plans while preventing your opponent's plans which is basically positional play. I believe the 1500-2000 range also has game-ending blunders in over half the games but they're usually tactical blunders, which is why people always say to train tactics. Also, learn your endgames because higher elo ranges end up in equal endgames more often. Know the basic endgame stuff like double rooks on 7th, centralising queen, using a bishop to prevent a knight's forward movement. Playing only rapid is good for players below 1000 as they need to learn to calculate. But above 1000, you also need to develop instincts by playing some blitz and bullet from time to time. Something important is that you should train as if you're already 2000+. P.S. Could I please add you? I sent you a friend request, I'm 'LaCalculatrice'
