Watching folks hike long distances, my observation is that it is a very organic experience that ebbs and flows. Be kind to yourselves and each other as you are doing, and don’t stress about catching up to anyone else, as this is your experience to be enjoyed and savoured in your own time and rhythm for optimal mental health and benefit. Reminds me of when someone gets a new car and then finds someone had rammed a cart into the side - denting it! Y’all are doing okay! I think you’re just tired and frustrated! Something to consider is that the mental, physical, and emotional fatigue you are both experiencing could be exasperated by the extended disruption of your normal sleep cycles with having to get up so early on repeated days to get over the series of passes. Do not be down on yourselves for the way you are feeling, but seek to understand the whole reason why, and that will help you find ways to recover more effectively.

The beauty of your surroundinds is stunning. Its sad to see your struggles with overwhelming fatigue. One downside to keeping up with a tramily. Sometimes our own needs and wishes get pushed aside to fit in with the group. After 45 years of marriage, our arguments most often stem from mental and physical fatigue. Little things turn into big things. Thank you for being transparent in your relationship. While in Mammoth see if you can find some Tenacious Tape. It is awesome for repairs to tents, sleep pads, packs, clothing. Sorry your new tent got broken in so soon !😮

Mammoth is a great place to rest and recharge. Theres a bus from Reds Meadow into town. You can do laundry at Reds. Take care of yourself so you can get to Canada.

Mammoth Lakes is DEFINITELY the better place to zero. You have VVR and Red's Meadow on this section where you can Nero (or zero) to recharge. Not a bad section and some excellent scenery.

I think you are suffering from having pushed yourselves to be keep to be the timings of Roadrunner and Boujie on the resupply day. That should have been a zero day because you were tired. Possibly you two need to split from the others to do your own thing on zero days.

Due to the road construction around Reds Meadow, the best exit to Mammoth Lakes is departing the PCT at Red Cones via Mammoth Pass. That's about 50 PCT miles ahead (after you rejoin below Paiute Cyn), and there are only two medium-sized passes to cross. So a day to rejoin, and then three hiking days.

A couple of years ago I went backpacking with a brand new pack. I took the pack off for about a half hour to take a break and a squirrel chewed a big hole in it to get a snack. I was sooo upset. Lesson learned lol

Carry more food with you. You can always zero in the wilderness. When you are fatigued, your body is telling you to rest. When you are in town, eat nutrient dense foods and stay away from crap food. FEED THE MACHINE, LETS GO!

I have been hiking/backpacking for more years than you all are old. I remember the first time I went out for a couple of night hike with the older friend who introduced me to backpacking. He was my Colin Fletcher of the day. Anyway, I had with me my brand new, recently purchased Sierra Cup. They were a must have item of the day, not unlike a Titanium pot of some size these days. The first evening when we were waiting for our freeze-dried meal to rehydrate he very nonchalantly asked to see my Sierra cup. He proceeded to whack it hard on the edge of a rock and put a small dent in the bottom of it. I was horrified and not very happy about it at the time. When I asked why did he do that he stated, “You will always know which one is yours”. He was right and I came to look upon that dent with fondness over the years remembering him and all he taught me, more through example than explicit explanation. What’s the point? You too will look at that hole, now very well patched, and remember that moment, the day and all you learned along your journey that you continue now. Good luck and remember, while we grow close to many of the inanimate objects we call gear, it’s really the memories the gear is part of that really matter. Gear will wear out or be set aside, but nothing can take those memories away from you. Happy trails and safe hiking! ❤

Marriage is not all rainbows and unicorns. Along the way, there's going to be plenty of unicorn poop (or apparently mouse poop in this instance). My husband and I have been married for nearly 31 years, and yes, arguments do happen. But, as he and I say, at least we're communicating, even if it's a bit animated 😂. But seriously, it's okay. No marriage is perfect. Give yourself a nice break in Mammoth (it's a wonderful town). The Sierra is beautiful, but definitely tough! We backpack, hike, and recreate in the Sierra all the time (perks of living in California) and I can't possibly imagine being out for as long as you've been without a civilized break. HUGS!!

Really love your content and I’m no expert, but you obviously came out here to do more than hike asyour channel says…and that is what you are doing. Maybe not enough. The paintings are beautiful and I imagine the writing is just as good. You don’t travelwritepaint by crushing miles till the end. I know there are timeline/deadlines, but I would be re-examining why I was there.
