Joking apart, it’s very concerning that you were watched and banned. True there is a silly bye law that says you may require permission if it’s not ‘private photography’ you’re doing ….BUT…..you are actually doing an amazing promotional job on behalf of the TOCs, they should welcome you. I hope this hasn’t worried you too much or put you off giving us all a weekly vlog, I’m sure you won’t just accept this without a fight back…they should apologise to you. There is an army of us happy to back you on this G. Go girl! All the best. 🚂🚴‍♂️👣🇺🇦

It would be interesting to know whether videoing in for a you tube video is deemed to be a commercial/business activity, or one for private purposes. I guess if making money from it, then it could be considered that permission is needed, but if so a lot of other you tubers are in the same boat.

Another well presented video .. just a pity who were treated so badly. Reminds me ... A couple years ago, I made a few films on the Newcastle Metro system and during one of my earlier ones, I had a problem with a new driver. The drivers actually change at South Gosforth and about 30 seconds after he got in his wee cab he opened the door and said I couldn't film .. Why ? I asked, I've seen plenty of folk taking photographs on the trains. Anyway I got out at the next station and while waiting for my return train, I heard over the tannoy 'FILMING IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE METRO SYSTEM' The driver had obviously radioed somebody. I returned to the previous station, walked about 30 metres from the platform to the Metro HQ and asked for a permit to film. Within 5 minutes I was kindly given a type-written one by a very understanding and helpful customer services member. I got the next train and finished my film. I should have waited for that same driver on his return trip, but never thought about that at the time. For all future filming, I always got a permit to film, but was never asked again ... obviously, it was just one of those ‘jobsworth’ members of staff we all meet once in a while.

It's just the way the railways operate these days. Back in the early 1980's when I went around the country by rail (free pass as I was a railway employee) snapping all the branchlines, you never thought of reporting to the staff first before you started taking pictures, now, if you rock up to a station to take photographs you're supposed to let the staff know what you are doing, whether it's a commercial activity or not. I still do a bit of railway snapping and will always tell the staff what I'm doing. The majority will have a 'carry on mate' approach but not always, I was turned down flat at Stratford upon Avon a couple of years ago. At Rugby the staff were fine but did remind me of the rules; no flash etc. I think as we, as a society, become more and more suspicious about what people are up to things may get worse. Remember, even at an unstaffed station with not a soul about we will be being watched on CCTV. It's a shame as the vast majority of railway snappers and vloggers operate in a very responsible way and people like 'G' actually do a fantastic job of getting people interested in our rail network AND using it.

They have always been anti railway enthusiasts at Hull. They would harass you for only having an SLR camera around your neck. With a mobile phone, you could secretly take what you like, without them knowing.

So normally at this point I would be commenting about how Hull is where I was born, about how I'd walk to Cottingham with my Grandad as a child, how my friend Phil Whitley lives in Driffield. However. Instead I am annoyed and somewhat perplexed. How, and why, were they tracking you? Who exactly was tracking you and how did you find out about it? I need to know this so I can send the sternly worded email to the right people. You should be able to travel and vlog as you please. I am bloody livid.

Jobworths - I’ve never heard that one before, but I do live in country NSW in Australia.😃Anyway G, I’d call them “Nobsworths”. You’re promoting train travel, I’ve seen heaps of your videos - and never once have you been derogatory or rude or disparaging about any operator, you’re not vandalising property, and you’ve got a legitimate ticket. So what’s the problem? Any fair minded manager would, or should, view these videos to see how their railway is running, and how it looks to the average punter. Don’t let this put you off more vids. All the best👍🏻

Some person raised his voice to me when i tried taking a photo on Scarborough station a few years ago. N*b ends the lot of them. The bench dates from the days of people going on holiday by train and railway excursions when the station would be thronged every weekend from Easter to September. Also the train that ran to Whitby up the coast line departed from near there, (Platform 1A, I believe🤔)

Apparently, I needed permission to fly which is bull as it’s perfectly legal to fly in an unrestricted public place. I had my CAA ID with me and, When I told them and quoted the legal side, I got the walk of shame off them. I hope it’s not bothered you as obviously, it’s a couple of months ago now. Let me know if you get any more trouble, 2 of us from The Wigan will sort em out 🤣🤣 Seriously though, I will make a complaint on your behalf. I am very annoyed that some jobsworth has treated you the way they did. The majority on the railway are part of a Railway Family, I am one, though recently retired. We welcome lovely people like yourself and encourage you promoting railways. Unfortunately people coming onto the railway nowadays are only there for the money and not job satisfaction as used to be the case. I know it won't deter you and your wonderful vlogging. I am actually surprised these train operators do not sponsor you in some way as you do such a remarkble job showing people how easy it is to get out there and see our wonderful country by train. I'm sorry you were treated like poo. I understand the need for vigilance but seriously. Local and regional railways should champion vloggers to promote their unique interests. Sadly we hear more and more, that this is not the case. 😒

I went to Bridlington last year and made a small mistake in only giving myself an hour there. It’s really nice and you should go there properly one summer Take the bus from Hull to avoid the awful jobsworths on that train line

Only 7 units remain, as most of the original 155's were split and reformed as the single carriage 153's. Those that remain typically operate the York - Hull - Bridlington area

Contact the railways companies. See if they will give you some written permission. Filming is getting such a nightmare because of certain people filming kids out and about. I do suggest contacting the companies, they might surprise you. Here's hoping.

Why have you been banned? Why were they tracking you? I’d have thought anything showing enjoyable day trips on the railways was a good thing.

The station at Bridlington is miles from the beach so you were right not to try and get there in the time you had.

Great vedeo, but how can you be banned from a train? do they come up to you and tell you or send you a letter?
