In September 2021, I walked the Spanish Camino de Santiago de Levante. It runs 820 kilometres from Valencia on the Mediterranean to Zamora near the Portuguese border. From Zamora, you can first follow the Via de la Plata, and then the Camino Francés or the Camino Sanabrés to Santiago de Compostela.
The 26th stage of this Camino de Santiago is 23 kilometres long and leads from Ávila to Gotarrendura. At 1,100 metres, Ávila is the highest town in Spain, and when I start at 8 am, it is so cold that I dig my gloves out of my rucksack. From the viewpoint Mirador Los Cuadro Postes I have a great view of Ávila with its impressive city wall. Today, the Camino de Levante first runs a short distance along a motorway feeder road, then along a country road with little traffic, and the last 17 kilometres along pleasant gravel paths and beautiful hiking trails.
