Day 12 | Climb out of the NOC & Checoah Bald | Appalachian Trail 2021
Ойын-сауық
The climb out of the NOC - Nantahala Outdoor Center was a tough one! I climbed up and saw Checoah Bald, rested there for a bit, and continued on my 16 mile day which ended at Brown Fork Gap Shelter.
March 6
Mile 136.7 - 152.9
Total 16.2 miles

The forest before the leaves come back, bathed in sunlight from a low angle might just be the most beautiful time of year to be in the woods. Georgious footage
That place ,The Dogwood Motel, was closer than most shelters. Must be a new place.
I went over Cheoah Bald one year ago March 6, 2020. It was freezing with snowflakes flying. That was just before the realization of covid set in. So glad to see your clear views!
Cool, your dad and I were both born on March 5th! 😎 🎉 🙌🏽 I did that section last year and remember Cheoah Bald being one of the toughest climbs of that section from Amicalola to Hot Springs!! Well done...
It shows you are physically and mentally ready for the Smokies.
Shoes off, kicked back and eating a Snickers...doesn't get any better !!!
You made that tough day seem easy. I only got a quarter way through my cup of tea.
Thanks for another great video Taylor. So awesome the shout out to the trail workers. We owe them all so much. Great mileage day, especially with the elevation. Glad the new jet boil worked out. Did you put the old one in a hiker box? Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrows miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful
Lucky me: I stumbled across Ben Montgomery's Grandma Gatewood's Walk and your vlog at about the same time, and I'm enjoying both very much. Continued success and joy in your walk.
You truly are hiking your hike - continuing on past the shelter others stopped and taking on those additional miles because you felt strong to do it! 💪🏻 Thrilled you are proud of your body and it’s taking care of you!! 👌🏻😀
I'm loving your videos as I enjoy my morning coffee. I'll be headed onto the trail in 2 1/2 weeks - so its nice to see what I'll be looking forward to. Way to hit the highlights of each day, with showing a little of what daily trail life is like, while keeping it all in a presentable format and time frame.

Gooood morning from central Florida! Hope everyone has a great day!
Easiest way to convert Celsius... double it and add 30!
@John572d4

1=9/5 C or 1 degree Celsius= 1.8 F, F is more accurate, a Celsius reading can cover as many as two degrees Fahrenheit.

@@John572d4 correct, but on the fly, you can quickly get close. 2 degrees will not make a difference in the situation in the video.

Hi, the Natahala section is tough. What I learned was that the AT was made before they invented “switchbacks” ! Up one side of the mountain and straight down the other side. It’s no fun when it’s raining, but you have great weather. With you and watching every day. I wish you would eat healthier.
Taylor if you push and hold the button on your thermostat it will change from c to F.
Heck yeah! and burning is no fun, remembering that sunscreen is crucial.

Greetings, first comment ever on KZread. Familiar with you from the last thru hike, now following you daily, enjoying it, you are warm and genuine. Have family in Nahamsha, reside in western Ma. but RV full-time with my dog & cat, in Georgia volunteering at a state park now. Hope to complete the AT in a couple yrs. with my dog, Gracie. Gonna bicycle with her plus my cat next Feb. from Key West to Canada. Keep up the good work and awesome attitude. Love walking Hampton Beach.
I know it’s not but you make hiking look easy.
It will be interesting when you hit the point you got off the trail last year. Everything after that point will be new for you.

Hey Nick, I was thinking the same thing while beginning to watch this video. I'd been a fan of Nahamsha's vlog last year. Her decision in stopping the 2020 thru-hike (like most other thru-hikers did) was the most responsible thing to do at the time. But now she's back! Woohoo! 💪👊👍👏

@@George-pf8zb She is doing great. And being really generous by filming as much as she is.
Great views, plus super-slo-mo! Congrats on pulling a high-mileage day with all of that elevation gain. This has to be a confidence booster going into the Smokies. I hope the good weather has held up for you.
Taylor is just awesome and an inspiration. It feels cool to be one of her fans and even though her views and subs are growing its cool to be part of this special niche section of KZread that so many are still missing out on. I can't help but point my friends in Taylors direction and hope that they get wrapped up in her charismatic journey that we've all come to love ❤
Those figs bars are awesome try the raspberry bar. They are 200 calories, great for hiker hunger.
yer from Nahamsha, that entire state is uphill! LOL....Ya got dis!
Another great day for you! Love the positive attitude ! Dianne
The higher you are willing to go, the better the views. Enjoying following your journey.
That climb is truly a toe stepper...never thought I’d make it to the bald...if I remember correctly I barely got the tent set up before I crawled in and went to bed. Slept a couple hrs and THEN got up and made dinner at dusk and went right back to sleep for another 12 hrs LOL!
Sunscreen is not an option for British Isles/northern European. My last name is a result of my Prussian grandfather adopting a name that was more familiar to Americans when he came from eastern Europe. Ukrainian on his wife's side, and English and Irish from the other grandparents. A "tan" for me is when my freckles get numerous enough to touch each other. We didn't choose our genetics: we just treat them. 😊
I've gotten sucked in to watching your daily posts! I find them to be a nice balance of scenery and narration. As you keep hiking, I'll be eagerly anticipating watching! Go!!!!!!
You're crushing it!! Happy hiking! 😊❤
Love following along on your thru hike this year. Happy hiking. Stay well! Keep the videos coming.
I just love all the Rodedendron
Mmmm spaghetti. Nothing like a nice hot meal to close out a tough day around a campfire. Keep rockin' north!
Awesome weather! Enjoy the hiking!
Thanks Taylor!
Very well done! Always look forward to your updates!
Love watching these!
Keep us updated on ATCNN
Well done Taylor. I enjoyed hearing the shelter dialogue at the end. Stay safe and warm!!
Good video. You will be on the leading edge of the bubble by now. Take care and be safe.
Yay! I loved the camp footage tonight, especially the tent set up!
Great day.... so glad the weather has been nice for you. Hike on
The Stash looks really nice, can't wait to hear more about it down the line as I'm sure you have some comparisons to talk about. Really beautiful weather again in this video, just stunning. Hope you have many more sunny days!
Glad it's going well 👍
Well done! Taking on the challenge and enjoying it even with it being a trial. You are a smart hiker, and your videos are excellent too!
Awesome job hiking those climbs !! Great video !!
Wow, what a day hike! Congrats!
You are doing great....keep on keepin on Taylor !!! 👍
That was cool the sound of the leaves on your slow motion walking.
I also did this same stretch in one day on my hike and even though it was for me a very tough day (I didn't drink enough) my recollection is that the Privy at Brown Folk Gap Shelter was remarkable for its lack of privacy.
Boy! You are getting a lot of people watching you! Congratulations! This is yet another great video... I would love to hike to Cheoah Bald and kick back and have me a Snickers‼️So glad you got good weather..this section would really be awful in bad weather. Thanks
Keep em coming Nahamsha!
Go Taylor! Great watching your progress. Keep up the good work!

Starting to gain precious daylight day by day now, the aurora begins around 5:30(am). Yes early March has produced near record sunlight in the northeast & dry, brush fire advisories, could put the squelch on some of the trail water sources. A middling wet or unsettled system expected next week.
Cant wait to start in April I’m going to be making videos out there too
You've got this Taylor 👊👍stay safe, stay well ✌️
Doing great 💪💪💪💪💪💪🧗♀️🧗♀️🧗♀️
Hope you have a great day!
Your new stove looks awesome!👍. I could be persuaded to spend a couple extra nights at that hostel!🤣🤣
I heard water is getting scarce further up the trail due to all the nice weather with no rain. Great view from Cheah Bald. Hey! Didn't you get the memo? Snickers Bars are no longer the ticket for the AT...LOL I'm going to be fighting through these ups and downs. I'll be the Tortoise and not the Hare. Slow and steady as she goes...John from MI P.S. Only a week until my start of the AT...

Any chance you could tell us how you use the Garmin watch on your hike?
Love the Snickers LoL!! How is the new stove working and can it simmer? Hike~On~~>
Looks like quite a slope for your tent.
I will stay in the Dogwood motel if I ever do the AT again! (Only made it to Hanover last time :(
Natures Bakery😋 Hike on!👍
Sun..view...candy bar....looks like your loving life. Spaghetti supper will definitely top it off.
oh man not much water , wait till bland and Bastian Va i think it was. youll see
What do you think of your new cook system? I have the Jet Boil Mini Moe and am thinking about upgrading to the new system.
I would be very interested how you like the stash, I know most thru hikers go for something lighter weight but It would be interested how it holds up for you.
Great video. How do you like the stash? I saw it in a local store recently. Seemed like a good buy. Love your videos, keepem commin in 😊
Still trying to catch up!

Nice keep on keeping on. Any chance you might share if there are good funds to be made if you vlog with the ads turned on?
Just so you know, that was Cheoah Bald, pronounced Chee-uh Amblin Along
@tvtoms

I looked it up a few years ago and all of the pronunciation guides state it's chee... oh.. uh. Cherokee word meaning otter I think.
How many other people are you seeing on the trail? Is it empty or crowded or something in between this year?
Good morning
I still remember the climb out -- LOL!!!
are the balds bald due to high elevation or poor soil?
Climbing out from the NOC is no joke...
For me...Uphill=Exhaustion BUT Downhill=Pain (knees).
