Triple A companies simply do not want to produce RTS games anymore because they require time, nurture & balancing - something of which goes against the money-grabbing obsessive culture of today. They have manufactured false claims to cover this detail up. So the argument of 'pressure' & 'market has changed' all doesn't matter when one is trying to reinvent the wheel, yet fail.

Not really, the last game was like 5 squads max on the map that had the retreat option so they weren't really dying. And the Space Marine hack and slash was just a ton of dead orks. They always show the hardships of Space Marines in their cinematics, but the games are actually nothing like that.

The game was a pretty big disappointment for many, but this trailer is so fucking epic. I still come back to watch it every once in a while and it still makes my hair stand on end. This is the most bad-ass 3-minute span I've ever witnessed.

I appreciate the "not even trying" stride of the Wraithknight, especially put next to the "balls out aggression" of the two Dominus Knights attacking it. It's the sort of dynamic action that you (sadly) can't get from tabletop miniatures! I guess part of that is why "Sync Kills" were so important and memorable back in DoW 1, despite their drawbacks in gameplay. It really felt like units were interacting with each other, not just playing attack animations -near- each other.

Trailer: looks like epic holy shit. Gameplay: looks like MOBA-cartoon. Sad but true.

I mean it's not that it looks bad it's just that at least from my point of view doesn't go hand in hand with wh40k.... And there is a certain kind of atmosphere these trailers create, and then when I saw gameplay it just instantly killed it. People then say you can't have cg graphics in game, well of course not, but you can keep some kind of line, likeness, grittiness, they could do that....

Tuff yeah i hear u on on that. the orks should be the smaller then the space marines, a nob is barely close to the same size as a space marine. Maybe a Warboss would match them, but i like the art style still, and the cinematography is just gorgeous in itself. Lore aside its great.

+pjboom Also the absolute nature of humanity; greed, lust, murder, envy, they all feed the Chaos Gods. That's why almost all minions and slaves of Chaos are human... well... used to be human, because they are so very easy to corrupt.

Damn, so when I see a single Space Marine face a Killabot and not show a bit of fear, that's the part that gives me the creeps.

God I love the armor design for the Howling Banshees and Wraithknights in this cinematic. It's so unique, and makes their armor actually look alien and unlike anything we would ever craft. I hope that texture design, or something similar, becomes more common in Eldar depictions.

Nope. After reading through the novels here is what it would look like: *1.* The level of horror - mix all the bad kind of grotesque ugly ass haunting misery your mind was ever capable to create or withness in your entire life with classic horror movies like "The Thing" or games like "Dead Space" and it will still do not even remotely do any justice to what the horrors of the warp can be ( there is not even a remote "would be" because it's anything you could think of - but worse, a complete rape-ass-gore-galore, not just mentaly but physicaly ). *2. Now how would this be translated into a game or movie: The most solid setup in which literaly nothing can go wrong ( but after having already established a cinematic universe with at least 1-2 movies ) would be the aftermath of a battle, where an Imperial vessel drifts out of warp battle damaged and in flight from Chaos forces chasing them because they either own or have recovered or captured an artifact important enough that the forces of Chaos want it, badly. We are talking literaly forces of Chaos, not just traitor legions, so one or two gods are involved in the grand scheme of things. Ofc they won't actualy show up or maybe just as a vision, but they "send" their champion after the ship. It would all take place on a moderately sized vessel, maybe a cruiser or even smaller. The crew would consist of standart imperial naval personnel, captain, navigator etc. a small contingent of Space Marines who were originaly tasked with recovering or protecting said artifact / important object or maybe even character and are inofficialy in charge of the whole operation. Among them maybe an Inquisitor The ship's engines need to be repaired. A Chaos vessel arrives. The Imperials play dead, almost everything is turned off but the basic live systems, and the damage seems severe from outside POV. Instead of destroying them, the enemy sends boarding parties. Somehow a group of Space Marines in turn manage to get on the Chaos vessel undetected and fighting their way through the engine room, are able to blow it up. However all of them die in the process, for the Emperor *insert dramatic scene* they refuse their leader's order to return, so that their own vessel has a chance to escape and reach their destination. Only their commander and a few other Space Marines remain. The ship's engines are repaired before two more Chaos warships arrive and despite warning and protest from the crew the Space Marine leader insists on making a warp jump. This is where the fun begins: they make either one or several jumps and over time some curious & mysterious things start to occur. At first the changes are almost unnoticed and negligable. But they become more apparent and some people start to change, grow more and more out of character, like out of nowhere, some semi dramatic and than slowly but surely realy dramatic shit happens. Unmaterialised warp creatures start whispering, calling, messing with their minds until people get turned inside out figuratively and literaly as the haunting creatures begin to materialise and manifest, so called Shedim who start messing things up in the ugliest ways possible. While not able to get out of that horror of a dream ( - they fucking wished it was a dream .... ) the crew and remaining Astartes are stuck in a jounrey of endless horror, gore and loss trying to reach their destination, back home. One by one is killed or consumed ( again figuratively and literaly ) fighting and trying to survive side by side with everyone who still remains while not even the dead seem truly dead and the fact that children are involved and won't remain untouched or unharmed at all makes it really grim dark. You thought those cute jump scare infants in Dead Space were scary or annoying, than you're in for a real life treat here ....

This trailer is fantastic. The whole video is a series of 40K metaphors. The blast of wind, combined with the "times of doubt" line bring to mind the the test of faith every Space Marine constantly endures in order to remain faithful to the Emperor. Eventually, a few fall to it, some slowly stumbling, some all at once. And there is no happiness like that which is achieved in dying for the Emperor's cause, as we can see by the smile on the space marine's face at the end. That's a part of what makes the Space Marines so dangerous and interesting--their utter devotion to their god trumps any amount of power, influence, or money that any planetary governor could give them. Also, I've never seen a more fitting image representing the 40K universe than the horrific and neverending rain of bodies at the beginning and end. The entire storyline is one gigantic meat grinder, in which we get to see little snapshots of triumphs and failures, acts of devotion and betrayal and heresy. We get to see what life is like in such a world, and that's what draws people. I love it.

After playing Dawn of War 3 I have a strong impression that 90% of Relic's budget went to producing that trailer and 10% to the actual game development.

This is got to be one of the best trailers in history.

I thought the Ork Boyz coming over that cliff like a bunch of blood crazed, psychotic lemmings was pure genius.

Rogal Dorn is correct, as expected from a primarch, the Tau are basically a blip of nothing on a galactic scale. The tau are simply the largest xenos threat after the Tyranid, the necron, the Eldar, and the Ork (in that order of danger imho). However as we know from inquisitor Kryptman, who descovered over 200 xenos species, declared each a threat to humanity and had them wiped out. The imperium considered all intelligent life a threat, and the fact that the Tau have formed a considerable size, and actively convert other xenos races including humans to their side, the Imperium considers them a great threat, however one that they can deal with later while they deal with the more pressing matters such as the Tyranid hive fleets, Necron tombworlds, and Chaos black crusades. Question not your lot in this life. Be content to serve Him-Upon-The-Throne - however humble your station.

This is the Sergeant who died in the intro of the first Dawn of War. Now he is in the Purgatory. Mind blown!

Only 3 factions :( Hopefully there's more in the full release or have an expansion with more, I'd love to play as Dark Eldar again.....

+Sex Gravy Don't worry, there will no doubt be a whole series of "Season Pass" updates that will cost you 50 bucks up front, plus a full expansion a year after release. The sad truth nowadays is that complete video games for full price at one time, like Baldur's Gate, are a thing of the past. Now we have to expect to pay over 200 bucks for a full game trickled out over a year.
