Dawn of the Dead (1978) | Original Trailer [HD] | Coolidge Corner Theatre
Фильм және анимация
In 1968, director George A. Romero brought us NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. It became the definitive horror film of its time. Eleven years later, he would unleash the most shocking motion picture experience for all times. As modern society is consumed by zombie carnage, four desperate survivors barricade themselves inside a shopping mall to battle the flesh-eating hordes of the undead. This is the ferocious horror classic, featuring landmark gore effects by Tom Savini, that remains one of the most important (and most controversial) horror films in history.

Watching the group die and come back was eerie period, especially when the elevator door opened and Steve comes staggering out fully turned zombie. That make-up was ahead of it's time horror/gore wise. Back then it seems like the 1970s-1980s movies did way more with way less.

Just saw the 45th anniversary release and loved every second of it. Wonderfully contrasted the many trailers for other horror movies where they kept the audience guessing on what bad thing will happen eventually in the movie. While Dawn of the Dead opens with the best intro scene of the television studio losing control as chaos erupts everywhere.

The problem with Jordan Peele is that his movies are SOAKED with politics and identity politics that come first and the horror comes a very distant second. Romero's POV was understandable even if you disagreed with it. And this one wasn't a overtly political film, it's message about consumerism and the need of some people to have EVERYTHING, not capitalism overall.
