Dawes Super Galaxy, fitting an Easifit motor kit. Part One Introduction.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I talk about how I am going to fit an electric motor to a Dawes Super Galaxy touring cycle (1992 model) with dropped handlebars.
The actual fitting will be covered in Part two when the kit arrives.
The kit I will be fitting is from easifit easifitebikekit.co.uk/

Hi. My wife over heard this video and commented that I often talk about doing something but never actually do it!!! I told her you would get this done and I am looking forward to it. Col.

Hi Col, this job will be done as soon as soon as Easi-Fit sends the kit, Mrs Scrimper has been going on about having an electric assist cycle for the last 2 years! If it arrives and I don't fit it straight away I won't get any dinner. I think she is worried that I will like it and fit it to my bike instead!

Nice video John, looking forward to seeing your next video showing the installation and your wife shooting off into the distance on her new electrified bike! :-) Any questions with installation just give us a shout. Clive

Thanks for the kind comment Clive, I reckon it won't be long till I order one for one of my cycles especially if she starts "shooting off into the distance".

This will be very interesting. Getting older means I don't cycle as far as I'd like and T thought of getting an ebike. I've looked at what's on offer and none have what I want and things that I don't want. I have been doing a bit of research and I can find 2 mid drive kits that would suit. Luckily I have straight bars so don't have your problems. I'll be very interested in your view of how it rides, distance possible and effect on weight. Reading reviews usually contains too much hype so coming from a user will be very interesting. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Colin. I am looking forward to doing this job and I guarantee I will give an honest unbiased opinion of it. The good thing about this type of kit (as I see it) is that you can quickly move it to another bike if you wish. The other thing is this, when you use it with the motor turned off it rides like a normal cycle barely any different than without the kit on. One of my cycling friends who has a full blown E Bike with mid motor (much heavier etc) told me that she does not enjoy riding it as much as she used to enjoy her normal pedal cycle. I think that this kit and other like it solve that problem.

Hello Roger, thanks for your comment, I have been looking at doing this for the past 2 years, when I found out about easifit it seemed to offer the best solution and they have many excellent reviews plus their after sales service is rated very highly indeed. as soon as the kit arrives I will make the video showing the fitting process.

The Tong Sheng TSDZ2 mid drive motor kit doesn't require brake sensors or Pedal Assist Sensors (PAS) either. I have the kit on two of my bikes and those of three friends - no brake sensors, no PAS. You might need brake sensors for the TSDZ2 if you have a throttle and have 'tweaked' the motor controller's firmware, but otherwise definitely not required.

Sensors are not required on the easi-fit kit but they are on many of the other kits with the motor in the hubs.

John, I have a 1979 dawes super galaxy 27 1/4 " wheel. Do you think this kit would work for me?

  • @scrimperuk

Hi Ian, it would work fine with a 27 inch wheel providing you can buy this kit with that size, I am not sure that easikit sell a 27" kit (the 27.5" they list is different) You could of course change the rim of a 700c to a 27" rim which if they are still supplying the same rim as we had is not a bad idea anyway. (you can find details of our rim issues in video five kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y2mIpNOOntPZpcY.html

Ian today I mentioned your enquiry to my friend (who is very knowledgeable about wheel sizes) and he says that you can simply use a 700c wheel in your 27" Galaxy, you will just need to adjust the brakes. (a 700c wheel is fine in a 27" frame but not the other way around)
