See. Calypso made the fight fair for both of them. Barbossa was brought back to life on the promise he help release her. And she clearly likes Jack. Most likely because Jack is just himself, and doesn't care for the release of Calypso or not really. And obviously, the man she loves. So, instead of being a bitch, she made it a fair fight, where only one would be the survivor.

I really like the juxtaposition of each ship's crew dynamic. The Black Pearl's crew are all in sync, working in tandem like a well oiled machine, they're good to go despite knowing they're not immortal. Elizabeth comes to Barbossa and trusts him completely, telling him how he's needed. Barbossa, knowing the crew won't survive without him gets on the helm to do his part. If he dies, so be it. Meanwhile, on the Dutchman, Jones has to force his way on to the helm of his own ship and take control. It's not comforting when he does, he's questioned immediately by a man he can't stand. No trust, no respect. Of course they end up losing.

I believe (might be stated in the movie somewhere) that the maelstrom provided an even playing field. it slowed down the pearl or sped up the dutchman, negating the pearl's speed advantage, whilst making it harder to do broadsides and prevented use of the dutchman's bow cannons, thus negating the dutchman's firepower advantage.

I love the way Davy Jones reacts to the rain hitting his skin. You can tell for him it's bittersweet. It's like being reunited with your long-lost love, only to know that she'll never be yours. There's much emotion there, but the frustration of knowing what will never be, coupled with the longing if a different time all comes out in that scream. There's so much there. Truly amazing visual storytelling.

Bringing back characters that were killed even in supernatural worlds can be a lazy, and/or overused thing to do, but ressurecting Barbossa (I get technically jack came back too, but it feels more like being rescued from another dimension than from death) was brilliant. Especially for the ending of dead man's chest-with the heart, the telling to go save Sparrow from the locker, and Barbossa walking out. He is just a really enjoyable character and jeoffrey rush is awesome, shame 4 was so crap but at least he got to be great in dead men tell no tales.

@@Darkstar263 it's a shame because it's always that damn claw of his that turns the fight. Jack cut the key off him and disarmed Jones, and the only reason why Jack didnt further mess him up is because Jones broke Jack's sword with his claw. And then Jack starts beating Jones with a log and only loses because Jones grabs it with his claw. In my opinion, this battle was and still is, one of the greatest moments in cinema history. Davy Jones, Hector Barbossa and Jack Sparrow, three of the most notorious and infamous captains, aboard the Flying Dutchman and the Black Pearl, the two most feared and powerful ships in the seven seas, battling together whilst also navigating an enormous maelstrom... Everything about this scene, from the build-up, to the characters' lines, to the music and the visuals. It's all stunning. I wish I could go back and watch this for the first time again. ❤

See. Calypso made the fight fair for both of them. Barbossa was brought back to life on the promise he help release her. And she clearly likes Jack. Most likely because Jack is just himself, and doesn't care for the release of Calypso or not really. And obviously, the man she loves.

I love how they were both ready to sail right into the Maelstrom without any regrets.
"Dying is a day worth living for" hits so much harder when you remember how long Barbossa spent cursed, despairing, unable to die nor take any joy in living - he couldn't even taste food in undeath. He searched for years for a way to die, achieved it, and was genuinely thrilled to _live_ again
this movie is so underrated, the perfect way to end the plot and story.

Davey Jones 'Calypso...' as he looked up into the maelstrom, and subsequent expression of heartbreak on his face...he still loves her, but knows that his love has doomed him to a life of endless pain and conflict, longing for something which can never be tamed and will never be his. The scream of rage he lets out as the rain touches his face is both denial and acceptance of his tragic fate.

0:03 I never noticed before, but Jones puts his hand over the area where his heart would be when he sees the storm forming and then whispers "Calypso..." longingly. He knows she's been released. He also says _"She'll_ not harm us!" He knows Calypso is on his side for this fight.

I think the fights were meant to show that Jones isnt the most skilled sword fighter but his monstrous body makes up for it

So overall, jack is better swordsman but jones is a better fighter

Two of my favorite lines in any film: “Dying is the day worth living for.” & “Full bore and into the abyss.”
0:21 when you're at the beach and you step into the cold water.
Anyone noticed that when Davy Jones looked up to the sky and whispers Calypso, his hand moves to his chest? To which his heart is supposed to be
Barbossa was the real main caracter, he was the villain, turned good for caracter development, was the hero twice, and in my opinion the best lines and personality
Barbossa really handled this scene like a boss. He’s been suffered for too long as the undead and unable to feel anything. Now finally free as a human, he’s ready to live every single second as a pirate, let alone enjoying a battle in a massive maelstrom.
"Dying is the day worth living for" - **when you just need to kill the Final Boss**
I love the development of how when Elizabeth first said the words “Cpt Barbossa”, she said it with hints of fear and anxiety, and now she says it with a sense of urgency and need. The development of this dynamic is underrated.
I love that Davy Jones say's she'll not harm us as he knows its Calypso.
Let's face it. We've all had days when we just want to scream like Jones.
“Captain Barbossa, we need you at the helm!” Captain Barbossa is the best captain out of all of em in my opinion, I doubt not even Captain Jack can successfully navigate out of the Maelstrom only a Captain with great experience like him and Davy Jones could clear this phenomenon on the high seas
0:26 love this epic buildup to the epic battle!
I won’t lie, Jack cannot man the Pearl anywhere near as good as Hector, yea he’s great at those sick drifts but Hector is the only one to willingly sail into a maelstrom and sail out in relatively one piece. That’s a real badass navigator.
00:14 at this scene I can feel the emotions of Davy Jones.
Jones was one of the the best characters of the franchise, he easily took over any scene and demanded respect. They could've went alot further with his character than they did I feel, he was amazing.
0:30 epic moment

1:21 Dying is the day worth living for.... Love this line! ❤
This line helps motivate me to run/walk in the bad weather, it's delivered in such a badass way.
0:21 when you've soap your whole body and the water stopped running
In the end it was Barbossa that captained the Pearl to victory over Jones, but it was Cunning Jack who won the day aboard the Dutchman. Seeing him at the Helm feels so right and he’s such a good actor. I love Jack but Barbossa might be my favorite character
Hector Barbossa vs Davy Jones (ship-to-ship fight) Brilliant that Jack Sparrow's enemies face each other (though Barbossa is more a rival)
1:42 the meme about wearing crocs brought me here lmao
“We need you at the helm!” “Aye that be true” Best fucking pirate, best fucking line
I love the little touch at 1:01 with Barbossa staring at his head. Almost like it reminds him of his former immortality, where literally nothing could kill him. But now he's no longer immortal. And this time, there won't be any Tia Dalma to resurrect him.
Love Davy Jones words, "She'll not harm us!"
"Aye that be true, I am the captain"
Davy jones is still alive in the new pirates movie
I quote pirates of the Caribbean, mainly Barbosa and Davy Jones, a lot. This is one of my favorite climaxes to a movie ever
The original 3 movies will always be my favourites, especially the 3rd one.
