    Way to go young man. I have used this printer for 4 or 5 years now and you hit every point that I learned over the years with using this machine. Nice touch with adding the suggested print orientation for strength with your print. That would be a separate class video in itself with learning how to 3D print. Awesome video and keep up the good work.

    I also just came back to say THANK YOU for the tip to cool the stepper motor. I shelved the printer for almost 3 years because of the constant jamming in the feeder (due to the heat melting the filament. I ended up ripping on of the fans out of the back wall of the unit and mounting on the left wall to cool the stepper motor. I think I've finally resolved the last issue that prevented me from performing long prints.

    I bought a used one that had error 0030 x axis error. After some tear down I found the part that goes into the x axis sensor was broken off, tried finding a replacement and no luck.(need a 3d printer to fix a 3d printer) so I magivered a fix with a bread tie and hot glue to trip the stop sensor and works perfect. I got into the settings and looks to only have been used 120 hours so for a 6 year old printer this is almost brand new. My first printer and happy with the find for putting less then 200$ into it.

    A few questions... Does it accept any filament brand? How fast can you print without much loss of details?

    There exist types of flexible filament for certain printers. I don’t think this one does it because a heated bed is often required, but check if your printer supports flexible PLA or TPU-based filament.

    The XYZprinting PLA does indeed list both DaVinci mini series and DaVinci Jr series as compatible, so they should all take the same PLA filament reel.

    I’m my experience the nature filament breaks all the time. Any new filament is really good.

    Yes, any old filament will keep cracking and not really be usable, but even with nature filament, if I store it in a vacuum-sealed bag, it stays good for a lot longer. I guess air breaks it down faster or something.

    baaelectronics I’m currently just trying to run through all the open filament before opening new rolls. Changing up my settings I could usually get decent prints successfully most of the time now! Although if I wasn’t using them because of my job I definitely would get a different type of printer.

    Mine has a tini tiny issue. It fails to load fillament. Like, loading it, sure. A small dot of fillament appears from the nozzle but anything more than that makes it shoot back every few inches of fillament. Annoying sound and it disconnets the fillament from the print head. Any tips on how to fix this? Kind regards, some annoyed guy :p

    My fix for continually failed filament load is to either clean the print head with the thin metal paperclip thing or to clean the filament feeder rollers. The print head being clogged can cause filament to not load past the nozzle and then get jammed up in the feeder rollers. Then, the melted filament on the rollers causes it to slip and make the annoying banging sound and/or terrible squeaking noises, so check the nozzle and rollers first.

    Make sure you've inserted the NFC chip into the spool holder first and see if it recognizes it. If not, unscrew the white plastic spool holder to separate it, put the NFC chip for your other spool of filament into the holder, and screw it back together on the new spool. I assume the printer doesn't already have filament in the feed tube, so insert the spool into the printer and load the new filament like normal.

    Great review. Captured all the important points and things you only learn owning it for so long. However as somebody who does own this printer I would recommend that nobody buys it as it is a proprietary filament printer and the filament is no longer produced

    how to use a Third-party filament

  • @baaelectronics

    @baaelectronics

    I’m not sure it’s that easy to use 3rd party filament with this model since all the official XYZPrinting filament spools have NFC chips embedded in the spool. Depending on the type of 3rd party filament, you may need to make an extra filament holder that would accommodate the spool and finals a way to reprogram the NFC chips. I managed to find an Instructable on this exact process: www.instructables.com/id/Using-3rd-Party-Filament-With-Da-Vinci-Jr/

    buy these: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072JRB1FZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 then download this app for your NFC enabled phone to program the tags. follow this link to find the app: www.soliforum.com/topic/17124/android-app-for-resettingwriting-blank-ntags/ it took me 3 minutes to program a tag and i have used 5 reels of 300 meter hatchbox with this printer sucessfully. You do need to print a spool holder: www.thingiverse.com/thing:1461527 once you have the spool holder printed, yes it will print on the jr, just need to angle it correctly, you need to drill a small hole in the bottom for the filiment to go threw. Next, once the tage is prgramed, just remove the nfc chip from xyz, and put the tag in its place, and put it back on the original spool so that it can read it:) easy as pie!

    Honestly you are better off finding another cheap printer, this isn’t the cheapest printer out there anymore. However, if you already bought it like I did, you can buy preloaded nfc tags off eBay for like a buck apiece. I got a set of ten 249 m nfc tags for 7.88
