@hjaidar

@@nogoodnameleft Actually, and unfortunately, this mesmerizing FX did not make the Olympic floor final. Due to the two per country rule, only Nelli Kim and Natalia Shaposhnikova from the tough Soviet squad made it to floor finals. Nelli Kim was given a retirement present, imo. Filatova, Davidova, Shaposhnikova and Naimushina all had superior floor routines to Kim's boring and basic one. Kim ended up tied with Nadia for the floor gold, while Shaposhnikova tied with East Germany's Maxi Gnauck's also boring and basic routine for the bronze.
I can't choose between filatova and davidova's floor. Two faboulous chorégraphies. The best ever.
OMG this routine kills me !!1 Its just wonderful, beautiful , awesome... Many words can describe this routine, unbelieve !!!
I forgot to include Shapornikova, her Olympic team mate. Just watch her FX routine and you can still enjoy the Soviet trademark, that put them on the top of the evolution of gymnastics!!!

This routine was just incredible! I have been loving yelena for years and years! Her choreography was on point! She also had great attitude and face expressions too! I mean, that first tumbling pass was just insane! Now her floor music disco oriental is stuck in my head! :)

Same here, I was 11 and in love with her, lol, I had no idea she was 19, no that it would've mattered to me. That routine just captured my heart, I remember thinking about her for months after that.
So grateful to be able to take lessons from such an amazing athlete!
I remember thinking what a cute, talented little kid she was, only to find out she was years older than me!
Vividly remember watching this routine and thinking how wonderful it was! It's this kind of artistry that I miss seeing in both artistic gymnastics and ladies' figure skating today. I'm glad they've banned that awful Thomas Salto move though and a few other dangerous elements that abounded in gymnastics at the time.
Always questioned Davydova's win in '80- but this routine was wonderful.
Definitely the best floor routine of the Moscow Games. She just brought the house down! How often does a floor routine do that to this caliber? There have been lots of floor routines that dazzle crowds but have it in the palm of the hands...

THIS IS JUST SO FULL OF WIN ITS UNBELIEVABLE XD Seriously I adore this. This should be shown to all of todays competing gymnasts to demonstrate how a floor exercise should marry wonderful acrobatics with beautiful choreography.
This routine is so much damn fun
Mais graciosa, impossível! Lindo demais!
@FLACSC74 I agree with you entirely. The music is simply fantastic and she really moves with it! The tumbling runs, choreography and overall pace throughout the entire performance is just fantastic. The big advantage of having KZread is having the ability to replay these wonderful performances over and over again.
Perfect, perfect, nothing Less than perfection....
La mejor impresionante nadie como ella.
Sublime perfec routine wow
Yelena looks quite young but a young lady of 19 at the time. You have to have a very sound base in dancing to get away with this. And the Soviets BREATHED dance into their gymnasts from a very early age. :)

Wow 🤩 one of the greatest floor routines all time. Wonderful, fun, amazing, all the ingredients
That was freaking awesome!
I remember being mesmerised by Yelena whilst watching this in the UK. When I first saw her I felt as though I`d been hypnotized. I became fascinated by her to the point of obsession.
Davydova always had awesome floor music
What a routine! amazing...she looks like Maxi ...Love those bowl haircuts many of the girls had at that time.
this is so great!!!
ohmigosh the ending choreography was epic!
The routines of the 80's were simply in a league of their own. The best era.Todays are a walk in the park in comparison.
That was 1 1/2. This was an amazing routine!
@FLACSC74 I agree with your comments entirely. As an observation, the old Soviet regime certainly allowed some fantastic pieces of music to be used by their performing sports i.e. gymnastics and figure skating.
Impeccable Yelena Davydova. The Soviet Union mastered the art of revolutionary artistic gymnastics.
Fantastic routine! I am glad though that the opening tumbling pass, the Thomas, has since been banned. This is the skill that the late 1978 World champion Yelena Mukhina underrotated just 2 weeks before the 1980 Olympics. She landed on her chin, damaging her spine and remained a quadriplegic for the rest of her life. 🥺

Why do people just keep talking and remembering this? Elena wasn't just her accident and she never wanted to be remembered just for that. Now talk about your victories and rapid rise in the sport, starting at 12 and entering the adult category without knowing how to do new skills and in a year of learning them all. ELENA WAS MUCH MORE THAN THOMAS SALTO
Bravissimo!!!! 👍👍👍
gosh I wish I could do I floor routine like her😍 I could always get taught by her though 😂 (shes head coach at my gym )
After seeing this clip, i'm now convinced why Davydova won the AA out from nowhere (she has been on the sidelines years before) eclipsing the favorites to win in Moscow. She was right indeed, she was at the right time and in the best form to go past Nadia and Maxi. Her floor routine is a classic!

My daugther is a gymnast ,she can learn from watching yelena i remember she was the best on floor.
@hjaidar
Mukhina had worked to build an image for a strong team, shame .... that much pain, unable to enjoy the glory and consecration as a gymnast. The Russian team was required to refrain from competing in those games.
I have previously been involved in competitive Figure skating and everyone talks about age and how quickly they are to state that you're too old. Yelena is either 19 or 20 in this video, no walking stick in sight and could we ever envisage anyone younger with such rounded accomplishments?

Gotta love the obnoxious Western documentaries that always lay the insults on "the Soviets" calling her forgettable.
That first tumbling run would not be allowed today for a VERY good reason - she has to land on her shoulders and could easily break her neck. A similar move during practice paralyzed Elena Muchina from the neck down and she died at a very young age because of it.
She did the Thomas Salto, Elena Mukhina broke her neck 2 Weeks before the Olympus while practising it 😭

Its so easy to say ever ever ever! Lets be honest here: Did we ever heard from her again after 1981!? Davydova was a one competition (not even) wonder. She was not even good on vault or beam. Her bars was fantastic thought. Now that routine for me was a standout at these games. If nadia didnt fall, she would have taken the aa title.
@MrMartinportnoy

Well, in 1981 she was already 20 and went on to compete at the Moscow Worlds - she had been around since the mid-70s and got her lifetime chance at the '80 Games (compare with what Mary Lou did after L.A). By the way I've always loved that vault she did, full-on full-off
@chariezwane3981

She had a bunch of injuries. This doesn't mean she was untalented, just that her body had its limits. And we will have to agree to disagree on her beam. She may not have been as great as Shaposhnikova and Ungureanu on beam but I don't think she was terrible. She is a bona fide all rounder. I think she took a dumb risk on her second vault, but I guess you are only at the Olympics once.
Can someone please explain to me why this wasn’t on EF if this scored a 10?! In this code did they get half of compulsories and half of optionals? Thanks!!

Yes, she was a great gymnast with a lot of difficult skills, but I should say that she was only a great tumbler.
