Davido & Chioma Wed In Lavish Ceremony + Akpabio Debunks Report On New Aircraft
Afrobeats Musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido tied the knot with his longtime partner Chioma Rowland, fondly known as Chef Chi, in a grand wedding ceremony in Lagos on Tuesday.
The crème de la crème of Nigerian society gathered at Harbour Point in Victoria Island to witness the union of the beloved couple.
The star-studded event boasted an impressive guest list, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, and several state governors, senators, and celebrities.
The hashtag #Chivido2024 took social media by storm, captivating fans worldwide.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has denied vowing to secure new presidential aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, despite the ongoing cost of living crisis in Nigeria.
However, his statement did not make clear whether he supports the purchase of new aircraft for the president and vice president.
The Presidential Air Fleet , which includes 10 aircraft and is larger than most domestic airlines in Nigeria, and continues to be a significant financial burden.
The Federal Government allocated N12.7 billion for the Fleet in the 2023 supplementary budget, in addition to the initial N13 billion, and has earmarked N20.5 billion in the 2024 budget. his denial comes after The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence asked the Federal Government to purchase new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

The recent heavy rainfall has seemingly transformed roads into rivers, devastating homes and businesses.

On its part, the Lagos State Government has issued a 14-day removal notice to owners of buildings and structures in the Sangotedo area of Lekki and Okota, Isolo, which were built on drainage channels.
The commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources Mr Tokunbo Wahab in a post on X said Climate change is real and there is a cholera outbreak.
We must know that all these things are Interwoven, we must all be responsible and responsive as a people. We cannot continue to brazenly abuse the environment and expect that there will be no consequences.
In Kenya, President William Ruto has condemned Tuesday's protests Saying legitimate protests against his policies had been hijacked by a group of organised criminals, he warned his government would use all means at its disposal to prevent a repeat of the violence at whatever cost, after demonstrators stormed parliament and at least five people were killed.
In reaction to the situation, Kenya’s former president, Uhuru Kenyatta in a statement urged William Rutu to Speak to the people, not at the people.
The protests were sparked by a controversial finance bill proposing significant tax hikes which originally included a 16% sales tax on bread and 25% duty on cooking oil. The protests, have brought the country to a standstill, with police responding with force, including tear gas and live ammunition.
Despite the government's partial concessions last week, scrapping some tax increases, protests continue to rage across Kenya. Mr Ruto has argued the raft of new taxes are essential to control Kenya's debt of over $80bn and avoid a default on its debt payments.

I have several comments from this news clip; 1. Congratulations to Davido and Chioma. Their wedding highlights the resilience of us Nigerians and the possibilities that could be available if only we had good governance. 2. The president wanted a Yatch, Nigerians screamed no yet he got a yatch. The President wanted refurbished houses for him and the VP, foreign SUVs for politicians and change the National anthem. Nigerians screamed no and he got it all. Today, he wants new planes and once again, Nigerians are screaming no. He will get new planes. Imagine if we voted in a fiscally disciplined President, what will our lot be today? 3. Lagos State Govt is focused on demolishing houses blocking undeveloped drains. What has this government done about the already developed ones? They knew the rains will come and yet no drain cleaning was done in February, March and April. The rains are here now and the news is more houses to be demolished. Anyway, happy 59th birthday to Govt Sanwolu. 4. The story in Kenya is pathetic. I do not really like to comment on stories outside Nigeria. We have our own issues and that should be our focus but The President of Kenya who was voted in by Kenyans feels he knows better than them. You want to increase taxes to raise revenue and the people said no. If you cannot find another way to shore up revenues, then resign and let someone who can come in and do it.
