I can't believe it's me 13yo lad when the documentary was filmed now approaching 65yo seems like yesterday!. I remember being picked up from school for filming, cream tea.If only I had not stepped on the branch. !! I was allowed to keep the rifle after the film was finished it was a good rifle Webley .22. My children and grandchildren didn't know that there is a filmstar in the family ,they didn't believe me until my son found it on KZread. Thanks for posting.

Glad you enjoyed it!
The script was written by my somewhat eccentric brother (Anthony Short) who, alas, is no longer with us. I met David Cobham but it all seems a long time ago. I remember the film gained much acclaim
I like when he points at the fleeing rabbit & shouts 'GOS' as if the Goshawk needed that!!. The Goshawk would of seen it long before he knew it was there!. I have trained & flown Goshawks & a lot more Sparrowhawks. Both birds when they are hunting are ten steps in front of us.
This was just awesome a trip down memory lane. Its such a shame time marches on and changes what we love.Very well done lovely video to share thank you.
Such a majestic creature, i catch a glimpse of one in a woodland near me.
Lovely film. The goshawk itself is very nicely filmed. Someone obviously knew about hawking and respected the book.
Love this. That soundtrack takes me back.
What a great film, great to see old technique's and equipment but also the similarity's of how things are done now. Fantistic!!
Thank you for uploading your film. I read T.H. White's book years back and love this story of a v. special partnership.
Great watch thanks for the upload

In America TV movies are usually under an umbrella title, like, "Friday night movie." Was this presented as something like that?
Found this after reading Helen Macdonald's book H is for Hawk, fascinating read and a great Book, will watch this film with interest and a little insight...

GREAT CLASSIC FILM
hi this film is one that stuck in my mine as a child my father was a falconer and I remember him telling me about film on tv that evening and we watched it in black and white I had no idea what film was called as it was so long ago but remember part in film where he was shooting pigeon for Goss and said I must not miss it its food for goss I thought the bird was called guss and called my first gisshaw guss many thanks for posting video it brought back many happy memories for me with my father john Evans anglesey hawking centere
What a wonderful man
Was this, like a Play for Today sort of thing? Over here in the States we have "Special Presentation" or "Thursday Night Movie", that sort of thing. Something like this wouldn't just run without some kind of umbrella series.

This was a stand alone film created for British television in the very early days of wildlife film-making in the late 1960s. The movie was based on the classic T. H. White book of the same title and featured explorer Duncan Carse, with whom David had worked closely for years. They remained firm friends until Carse's passing in 2004.
Saw a Gos a few hours ago , came here to confirm it as I wasn't sure . Derbyshire U.K.

Wow that's great! I have heard that they are being persecuted in the peak District!
Three days and nights? Unless that hawk is wearing nappies, his Persian carpet must be a mess!

The important thing in this video is the lesson that shows us as a legacy. How human stupidity and egocentrism teaches us that the real teacher and coach was the hawk who, through time and perseverance, took away the arrogance and foolishness of the pretentious falconer.

It's not a mistake. You really think the director and crew didn't notice it happening when they filmed it? The hall light was probably on a timer, they often were in houses like that back in the day, as a power-saving measure. You pressed the button to turn the light on and it would switch itself off after a set period, sometimes as short as 10-15 seconds.
