Play His Song From Upfront CD "Benny" Feel the Music. May He R.I.P.
David Sanborn is one of those musicians who’ve been around for so long and played with so many people that you just took for granted that he was always present. It’s so sad to see the staples of one’s musical experience disappear.

RIP David Sanborn. You were a big part of my growing up.
May his memory forever be a Blessing. R.I.P. David Sanborn
Good night l am a saxophonist from Guyana. This is a guy l admired and l had promised myself to attend one oh his shows in the future. So sorry l cannot now keep that promise. May his soul RIP.
Drove 4 hours to Miami yesterday and David’s songs came up at least 3 times on my journey…such a talent!
David Sanborn was a saxophone genius who really shaped the music scene from the time I started drumming in my parents' basement as a kid. He mixed jazz, pop, and soul like nobody else could. Throughout his career, he played with so many different artists and always managed to bring something special to the table. His music had a way of touching your soul and making you feel things deeply, which is something I’ve always admired. Losing him feels personal, not just because he was a legend, but because his, (like so many others) music was a big part of the soundtrack of my life. His legacy is massive and his tunes will keep inspiring and moving us. Thanks for all those great music, David. You will be missed."

Listen to David Sanborn ,with Clapton some , and was blown away with all the great musicians he played with,he made a lot of the great rockers better!
Went to see Eric Clapton last night (13th May) in Birmingham, UK. Without any other explanation than "this ones for David Sanborn" he played River of Tears.
WOW! Just saw this...very sad, just an excellent player with such a distinctive sound and super personality...his discography with other artists says it all...R.I.P. David and thanks for the beautiful music...
He gave a great concert, one of my favorites.
RIP David, thanks for the many years of music.
Damn, such a bummer. Amazing musician, loved his show.
Oh no! He had a show coming up that I was going to get tickets to. I had seen him play years ago. He was great! So sorry to hear about this. RIP
He was instantly recognizable for his tone and tenor. What a talent. Already missed.
David is the reason I learned to play saxophone. My heart is feeling this.
Loved Sanborn, a class act. SMOOTH Cat on the sax. Thanks
David Sanborn will never be forgotten , always a True Legend R.I.P
I remember watching him at night on the show. Great sax player. It's funny how so much time goes by without seeing him, and yet it's still shocking to hear. R.I.P Mr. Sanborn.
I think about him all the time. We haven't heard anything from him in so long. I've missed him so. Rest well ❤
GOAT! His sound often copied but never duplicated. RIP🙏🏻 and thank you for your musical contribution.
as a saxist, it took me a while, to appreciate his music, specifically after his killer tv show. Cheers to his Memory.
Really sad to hear about David Sanborn's passing. For those unfamiliar with his work, the album Double Vision with Bob James is a classic. Will be missed.
A wonderful player who transcended the corny cliches of smooth jazz to create truly soulful music full of virtuosity and heart. One of the towering figures in jazz, soul, rock and R&B in the last 50 years.
His incredible work on “Lea” from Toto’s Fahrenheit album still touches my heart to this day. May he rest in peace. 🙏🏻✝️😢🎷
Night music on Sunday nights was ground breaking, Some of the best musicians from around the world played on that show. Will miss you David, R.I.P. ❤️
Rip David William Sanborn, you will be missed

RICHIE COLE .......
In my only experience choreographing a runway model show in 1991, his “Bang Bang” song was the highlight. Fun, clean, spirited. He had his gift that he shared with the world.
Had floor seats for Bowie in 77, Young Americans tour in Denver. Fantastic concert ! Both David's Rocked ! Their now both gone , but Live on in their work. Music is eternally a gift.
David was 1 of the best. A true loss. SNL & untold number of outstanding musicians. My personal favorite sax player. 🤟🎶🙏🙏
David Sanborn grew up a few miles (and a decade and a half before) from me. St Louis suburbs. Fantastic musician in both jazz and pop/rock. His A Change of Heart album was one of the first jazz albums I bought. Great career. A mind boggling resume. Played at Woodstock. Played on 10th Ave Freezeout by the Boss, Gaucho by Steely Dan etc etc.
Huge loss to the music industry and his fans, I got into David Sanborn during the late 70’s, being a straight ahead Jazz appreciator sometimes you want to hear jazz from a different angel, I loved how he incorporated, R&B-Jazz and Funk, Sanborn created a unique style that made me a lifelong fan. Thank you Brother David , rest in Paradise 🎷🙏🏾🕊️
Oh no !!!- He is like one of the very best musicians. I remember his show. :(
Sad News. We will miss David Sanborn ...R I P......
Thanks for posting.
Very Sad, loved his playing and so many great songs! Chicago Song!!
My memories of Lil' David are the three or four years he spent with Butterfields band, then the three years he was with the Brecker Bro.s band, all before he went solo.
Having released his first solo album in 1975 - Taking Off - Dave has rarely gone more than a few years between releases. In his six decade career, Dave has released 24 albums, won six Grammy Awards, and has had eight Gold albums and one Platinum album. RIP 🙏
Thank you both for this fine tribute. My favorite moment in any Linda Ronstadt recording is near the end of her 1978 cover of Elvis Costello's "Alison," where she holds a note and it blends with David Sanborn's alto saxophone solo -- whew!
Oh my gosh brother John! Smooth jazz. I loved his program on TV. 📺 I don’t remember what it was called but it was a standard around my home.

Night Music, Sunday nights
I loved "Night Music"...and his Thursday appearances on Letterman's show back then. KNX-FM in Los Angeles used to play David, Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton, Tom Scott, et al, so those players were familiar to a wider audience than would have been expected. When they shifted to strictly smooth jazz, they lost me. 😞 Rest well, David...and thank you for everything you added to our lives through your music. ❤🎶
Great artist So versatile & soulful... Loved his Sat nite live People get ready performance with Curtis Mayfield, David Lindley, and Taylor Dane 1989
First I heard of his passing. I'm a sax player. No where near his league, but always appreciated him. No sound or technique like his. I especially loved his more outside jazz albums.
Loved smooth jazz for so many years . RIP David Sanborn!
a very said day for music world. RIP David.
Best late night music show in music history!
Hideaway album and the movie American Gigolo is what introduced me to this benchmark saxophonist!!
Awww. I remembered him when he would sit in with Paul Shaffer on Letterman! RIP it up David!
The "Upfront" album was so good!! And yes Night flight is a show i watched or taped on my VCR to watch later.
His sax style was very melodic and not boring. Great solo he filled on .We ll pray for him
He was truly the best. Loved all of his music. May he RIP!!!
Was a huge fan-so sorry to hear this-
Very sad news. David played with so many. I saw him with Roger Daltrey at the 50th Anniversary show for Pete Townshend in NYC playing a solo on 5.15. He was a giant in those circles. Best wishes to his family, fans and his circle of loved ones.
R.I.P. David Sanborn. “Night Music” was the best music show ever.
Thanks, Dave, for making the soundtrack of my life great. RIP.
The first time I heard Sanborn, he was in Michael Kamen's New York Rock. Early 70s, he stole the show. Joe Beck's eponimous CTI debut stole the show. That awesome solo on Claus Ogerman's Dreams
Tommy Bolin !! David Sanborn !! Champions & Legends RIP
Sad indeed. David was a great musician.
So sad to hear! R.I.P. David Sanborn!
RIP David.
Wow where do I start!! One of my favorites in saxophone. Lisa, the whole Double Vision album. RIP DEAR BROTHER. 🙏🏾
He had a great show. The Gil Evans stuff… What an amazing saxophonist.
I remember the dream team he put together, David, Marcus Miller, Hiram.bullock , Ricky Peterson etc .I LOVED HIS LINE UPs !
Excellent player. 78 is really not that young so good he had a nice long life. RIP
Sad news. Loved David Sanborn.
I met him on a plane flying out of seattle in the early 90s.
Bummer. Loved Night Music. One of my favorite shows of all time.
R.I.P. Mr. Sanborn. And thanks for the wonderful, wonderful music. ❤
Hi, Thank you for posting. How sad. I was in a conversation with George Benson (by off chance in SEPT 2002) I'd just arrived in New Jersey for a holiday from the UK. George asked me what our plans were and we told him we'd booked tickets to see him play a concert at The Beacon (Verizon Jazz festival) he billed with Joe Sample and the emerging Cris Botti. I told George that David was my favourite saxophone player and I was fulfilling an ambition to at last hear him for myself. I told him that he had an unmistakable signature that emerged on just about everyone's album. In fact the moment I would hear the sound of his sax I knew I could safely buy the record. The record I bought on the strength of this signature was Carly Simon's haunting album "Spy" David Sanborn features on four tracks of Carly Simon's album "Spy." These tracks are: "Vengeance" "Just Like You Do" "We're So Close" "Memorial Day" On these tracks,he plays the alto saxophone, contributing to the album's distinctive jazz-influenced sound. Mediocrity was not in his vocabulary. My delight was enhanced as George invited me to go backstage on the strength of his say so (how I'll never know) but it happened and I got to meet His wife, his manager and David himself for a brief period and satisfied beyond measure we were treated by our gracious hosts for pudding in Greenwich village. What an evening. Rest in peace David and condolences for his family. From J. In the UK. 🙏 What a sad loss for the world.
This is shocking.. What a loss!!
My favorite jazz saxophonist."Voyeur" album was my introduction
Rest in peace, Sir.
David Sanborn was world class............checkout LITTLE WING live with Eric Clapton and Sherl Crow.
So sad to hear of Mr. Sanborn's passing.
R.I.P. Player...🎷🎷🎷🎷
When I was younger, was listening to this genre including David Sanborn. A couple days ago I was thinking about and playing his music genre on my job site and talked about a few of the artists. As I write this 2 days later, for what it’s worth, it also happens to be the day David passed away. Life is mysterious for real.
We lost a great. RIP.
He will be missed.
He set the musical tone for the movie "Lethal Weapon".
Love the remix version of "The Dream". Rest In Power.
I made it through college in Mid 70's listening to Sandborn, Grover, Klugh, Benson, Bob James, Roy Ayers and Phyllis Hyman. That was my library trying to stay up studying.
I was shocked when i found out yesterday! I had no idea he,d been ill! Sad! Great musician i have some of his albums and many with him playing on other artists albums too!
Such a sweet tone. You could always tell it was Sanborn because of that sweet alto tone. I likened it to sugar drizzle. He will be missed.
Always loved "In my own dream" with Butterfield. Magical/Mystical and his jazz just won't quit. A true genius!
I knew David for a short time because I lived near where he lived in Westchester County NY I would see him around in Irvington. He was a very nice guy. He was a regular guy. I always liked his music. It's very sad that we have lost him.
David was a very great jazz guy 1986 the Grammy awards winning Double vision album really changed my life Then the 1987 Change of heart which featured Chicago Song 1988 Close up with Slam And the list goes on and on May he rest in peace Gone but never ever forgotten Hes playing his sax in heaven. 🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷
RIP, I was just listening to him on my iPod Saturday. I couldn't wait to hear the theme to Night Music, on Sunday nights.
Just listened to "Your Party" by Ween. Loved his playing.
He played in concert with Linda Ronstadt in 1978 tour for her living in the USA album.
Thanks to both of you for this tribute!!!
Nite Music was a great show..a good mix of music genres. Jools Holland was a great co host.

RIP David Sanborn. One of the best!😢
Thanks for everything David!
That performance on Letterman backing up the composer of that song that begins “I picked up a waitress/Like I always do”-now I have it-Warren Zevon ! What a performance ! So perfect.
What a fantastic musician, he’ll be missed - R.I.P. David🤍🤍💖
My younger brother had very eclectic tastes in music. When he graduated from College in 76 he moved into my apartment and there began my musical growth. One night we were smoking some weed and he put on Dave Sanborn's Flight Album. I was immersed in these new sounds. The next day I put on the album again to see if it was "weed" good or really good. It was the latter.
David was a hugh influence on me and so many others
