    The admiral has something many players lack; he has class! Didn't talk trash, didn't play dirty, and didn't disrespect. Dignity came out of his every pore. Plus, he's a fellow veteran. I salute The Admiral! Thanks for your service.

    THe only black guys that get accepted by white culture are the ones that 'have class' according to white people. All they have to do is be raised in a different culture, something they have total control over! Why dont they all just choose different parents and childhood circumstances! The guy that overcomes poverty to learn who they are as an adult is way more impressive in my eyes than the person adhering the things they were taught their whole lives. Robinson, by all accounts, is a totally wholesome dude, but a guy like Caron Butler, who struggled with all kinds of issues even while playing to now be an advocate for new players and for poor kids today is a bigger success story.

    Playing my Marine card. I had the honor of meeting Ensign Robinson right out of the USNA after graduation. I wasn't 19 yet and hated life away from home on Okinawa, Japan, etc. Arranged to be part of the Spurs EARLY, he was assigned to spend time making morale tours. My command was chosen to play a quarter of basketball with him at my base. WE ALL got a laugh as his 7ft frame could palm a basketball overhead HIGHER than any normal guy could jump.

    Players look so bored during even playoff games today. They are jogging in fast breaks. People calling this era the era of fast "pace". Funny to me. Only thing that's faster is jacking up of shots. All Star games were more competitive than a lot of playoff games today. Jokic out there putting up videogame numbers and it's easy for him. Even when he has an off game he puts up 25-20-10. Imagine how aggressive defense would be against Jokic back in this era. There would be a player like Robinson under the rim helping out with 3-4 players clogging the lane every time he went inside.

    I don’t know if duncan’s better than him, robinson was the lone star between 89-97 and only missed playoffs once when he got injured the season before duncan got drafted besides all the accolades he has.. (duncan had plenty of help in his prime so I take robinson as the best spur)

    My favorite big man of the era followed by Hakeem and Ewing. Saddening this era won't be seen again. The best Spur of all-time or 2nd to Gervin. He just didn't get the benefit of the majority of his career being under Pop and with those teams.

    @@janseanhernane3191 duncan isn't the greatest spur by a long shot. Lmao what do you mean? He benefitted from playing essentially entirely in popavichs scheme with a much better team than gervin or robinson. He might be ahead of gervin but no way is he better than robinson was. Duncan wasn't even the best spur on his team the last half of his career.

    @@scottb3034 So by your logic MJ, Pippen, Shaq and Kobe shouldn't even crack Top 10 player discussions because they benefitted winning under one of two coaches that people can argue are better than Pop?

  • @scottb3034

    @scottb3034

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@janseanhernane3191 popavich was not only coach but gm of the team. Jackson was never that on the Bulls or Lake show. Additionally, jackson arrived to both those teams with the roster already assembled and producing. MJ was the greatest player in the world and pippen was ascending to all-star. Shaq was an unstoppable force and kobe was also ascending by 2000. Popavich built the spurs from the ground up minus robinson when pop drafted duncan. And pop kept drafting and coaching those players during duncan's entire tenure. Jackson was a master of working with what he was given. Which at times was quite lean. The other difference is that every single one of those players minus kobe had already shown greatness and winning ways before jackson got to them. And the last thing is that I never said tim duncan wasn't great. I said he wasn't AS great. There is a difference. But duncan was never spectacular after his last mvp. He was merely steady, productive and fundamentally sound which is why his scoring and rebounding were still decent 17 years on. Duncan is considered great not because he carried his dynasty teams on his back like jordan and shaq for instance but because he happened to be the leader of a dynasty that spanned 15 seasons. He had immensely talented teams shoulder much of the load in his last 3 titles including a superstar in kawhi leonard. And in the first one he had david robinson. Meanwhile robinson earned scoring titles, mvps, and dpoy awards carrying his team as the undisputed leader and being far and away the teams best player for a decade. Was duncan ever scoring champ? Rebounding champ? Blocks champ? Robinson was not only one of the greatest defensive centers in history but offensively too. The only center more complete all-around may have been hakeem. Maybe wilt. David robinson had an outrageous 8 all defensive teams in an era that included ewing, hakeem, dikembe, and Zo. Who did duncan compete with defensively at PF aside from Garnett for most of his career? Robinson was the better scorer, better blocker by a mile, comparable rebounder, better free throw shooter, much better stealer and only was a worse passer than duncan. Robinson could have won five titles under popavichs direction with the teams tim had. Tim was a great player don't get me wrong. Easily top 50 and probably top 20-25. But he is also one of the most overrated in the sport. He had the team to raise his status to greatness unlike kobe, shaq or mj who not only were head and shoulders better than their teammates but clearly showed it their entire careers and through most of the finals they led their teams to. Can you say duncan was better than tony parker or kawhi in the titles he won later on? I don't think so.
