    Adam! Thank you for showing this collection! The information and estimated measurements of certain parts of the various whips helps beyond immagination for those of us who strive to create the best repros possible.

    NICE collection! Over the years, I've owned three DM Indy bullwhips, one blacksnake, and a dog quirt. My first Indy was the 12-foot model (circa 1997) with glass smooth overlay plaiting. Handled like a dream, but very tiring after throwing it around for half an hour; it was a chore to keep it off the ground! I decided to remedy that by getting a 6-foot bullwhip, which was nice and snappy, but the overlay was really thick and bumpy because the edges of the strands weren't pared down to lay flat. When I ordered my third and final Indy whip, I requested the plaiting to be glass smooth, and asked for a shorter handle grip, in contrast to David's standard length handles. Fortunately David was in a capricious mood in the summer of 2001, and he granted special request orders to several customers on the IndyGear forum who asked for screen-accurate longer whip handles. I personally thought the shorter handle looked really cool, and I was pleased that David made my whip exactly as I wanted. The tag reads: #453 Special. :-)

    Awesome, informative and entertaining. Have you ever done a video on the pros and cons of different material types (cow leather vs kangaroo hide vs nylon etc) as far as durability, handling crack volume and so on?

    Very good video! I purchased a Morgan whip from you around '07-'08. At the time, you said the whip was around 10 or 15 years old already. Still have it. Still use it. Still. love it. Quick question: your whips are all very shiny. I use Pecard's leather dressing on mine, and the finish goes almost chalky (not in texture, just in color) after a while. How do recommend treating the whips to get that nice waxy luster?

    Can I just clarify one thing that is actually not apparent to many people ! I watched a Tv show back in the 1980s about the making of Raiders of the Lost Ark and it explained that David Morgan was bought in to make functional copy, stunt Bullwhips for the original movie . Bullwhips that had steel Inner cores for some of the scenes where Indy swing across things. There is no proof that the original hero probs pre production movie were made by Morgan? One story suggest that the Bullwhip stunt Instructor who trained Ford on the film set had the 3 whips of different lengths in his own collection and he lent them out to the movie . Interesting that Morgan never made the original longer handle Bullwhip for retail that features the movie.

    There’s a whole website, IndyGear.com, which contains research every prop used in the Indiana Jones movies. There is no doubt that David Morgan made all the whips for the first three films, including a special braided covering for a steel cable that would make the cable look like a whip and be safe for swinging. Back in the late 70s and early 80s there weren’t many whip makers, and only David Morgan was making the style of whip you see in the film. It was a combination of Australian and American designs that David himself created.

    astronotusx durability has more to do with how well the whip is built and what it is made from than what style of whip it is.

    I'm very interested in that pocket snake....I wanted a blacksnake but I see they no longer produce them. What is with the 'wire wrap' on the handle area? Would you reccomend this whip? I have several snake whips but none by the DM company and there is little to no info out there about their pocket snakes....thank you

    Did David ever make stockwhips?

  • @k2sworld

    @k2sworld

    3 ай бұрын

    I can answer that. No. The stock whips David had for sale in his catalog were all made by Terry Jacka in Australia. I owned one I bought from David in the 1980's and held onto it for the longest time, but eventually sold it. I also owned a two-tone 16 plait bullwhip made by Jacka that David Morgan sold on his website for a short time. It was beautiful, but, over time, the differentiation between the two tones became indistinguishable. I sold that one off too, as it was more of a piece of art.
