What an unparalleled joy to hear the songwriter performing this piece himself!!! THANK you, David Mallett, for writing some of my favorite songs on earth.

I have a wonderful memory of dancing around the living room with two of my daughters to this song about 35 years ago. We had put the lp on the stereo, and the three of us were laughing so hard, and twirling like never before! Thank you, David...

David played this song in Portland in my loft getting ready for a show at Horse Feathers. Too say I was blown away is an understatement - I had 2 friends in his band - rob

Clint, not to compare - when you see 1960s Cream, Who, Blind Faith, BST, Zappa you know great songwriters. Way better than. Lightfoot...damn shame

David Mallet is a GREAT songwriter. If you've ever spent a summer evening on a North Woods lake, listen to "Midnight on the Water" and relive the experience. It's been more than fifty years since I heard the call of the loon, but when I heard this song… I was there!

30 some years ago we took a family vacation to Ireland. I bought a camcorder and recorded many magical moments (and some ugly ones) during my Mom and Grandmother's return to homeland. Some 15-20 years after that, with video and sound editing software finally caught up, I made a video montage of the trip. There was only one song to play....this masterpiece by David Mallett. One of my most precious memories is the way my Mom exclaimed "Oh Tommy" when I played it for her. Thank you David Mallett for that priceless memory and gift.

just love this guy. i have such fond memories of going to see him play at Passim's coffee house in Harvard Square in the early eighties. A true artist and craftsman and a brilliant songwriter.

I heard this song on one of John Denver's early albums. But a song such as this is always sung best by the person who wrote the original lyrics. No one sings it better than David Mallett. I have discovered his many other songs recently, and have learned to play a few. I will learn to play more of them.. This man is an exceptional songwriter and singer. I love his voice and his smooth style. And his band fits his style perfectly.

St Anne's Reel is obviously traditional, but John Mollin, the rest of the song, lyrics and melody, created by David Mallet!

Absolutely beautiful. I'd only wish that American fiddlers would learn to play the reel part the way it's supposed to sound. See Ally Bain or any French-Canadian fiddler.
