David M. Solinger: A Vision Across Continents

Few collections so powerfully capture a moment in time and place, and history, as The David M. Solinger Collection. Assembled with a deft eye, singular passion and pursuit, The Collection represents the greatest achievements in art in both New York and Europe following the Second World War.
The Collection reflects the transatlantic dynamism between the greatest artists of the last century. Offering extraordinary insight into the prolific careers of Dubuffet, Paul Klee, and Fernand Léger, alongside iconic examples by Alberto Giacometti, Alexander Calder, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso, the masterworks which comprise The Collection not only trace art history but foretell it.
The Collection also tells the story of David Solinger himself, and his enduring legacy of philanthropy and support for notable institutions inspired by a lifelong passion for art. As a highly successful and pioneering lawyer, his dedication and foresight within the field would lead him to become an expert specializing in the developing worlds of television, advertising and art law, preceding many of his peers.
Works from the David M. Solinger Collection will be offered at Sotheby’s New York in the dedicated David M. Solinger Collection Evening auction on 14 November, the Modern Day Auction on 15 November, and the Art of Africa, Oceania and the Americas auction where bidding opens on 15 November. Additionally, more works will be offered in Paris’ Art Contemporian Evening sale on 6 December.

How much taste does it really take to buy a Picasso? How visionary do you have to be to acquire a DeKooning? Making videos about "great collectors" is how you reward valuable customers, that's it. Dave has yet to do anything

I would approach from a different angle because he started in the 50s when most of those artist well alive and active. Picasso was already “famous” but the amount of work he produced you had to have an eye what’s great and what’s not. I do believe he was a visionary art collector not because of the names in his collection but the quality of the pieces and their stories and personal connection. Of course the auction house job is to make it as special as possible but with this collection, its a truly exceptional one.

All of these paintings are a joke. The Joan Miro painting looks like it was made by a toddler. If you separate the actual art from the history and painter I don't believe any of these would be revered. What a tragic waste of time by all parties involved.
