"Music is something Van Halen makes when we run out of nothing to do". Every time I hear DD verbalizing, whether it's something from last week or 35 years ago, I'm awarded some brilliantly hilarious phrase that no one else before has ever spoken. I've never been bored by a DLR monologue, and am usually rolling on the floor before the end. He's the king of turning a clever phrase.

Fun times back then. I'd love to go back and do it all over again. I saw VH 8 times during their prime. Once in 1979, once in 1981, 3 times in 1982 and 3 times in 1984. I cant believe all these years have come and gone since then. My favorite show by far was the 1981 Fair Warning show. I really wish that I had seen that tour a couple more times. So many great concerts I went to back in the 1980's. It was truly a great time to be young and alive. Cant believe Eddie Van Halen is gone. Thanks for all the good music and great concerts. Was an honor to see you in concert all them times.

You are so lucky. I’m 18 and this band is my life among others. I will forever be upset that i wasn’t around back then, they really seemed like much simpler and fun times, i would do anything.

I was right there with you bro, but, I never went to see Van Halen after they fired David Lee Roth and hired Sammy Hagar. Didn't they have another singer before Sammy Hagar tho, that dude from Extreme?

The 84 jump tour was fucking EPIC I seen it 5 times in 84 starting in my home town of Detroit MI I seen both concerts in the Detroit. 1 in Chicago 1 in Cincinnati Ohio . 1 MSG in NYC .. I graduated high school in 84 my dad gave me the hole summer off no work all play . Dam I miss those Days.. RIP PoP. RIP EVH. My Dad was one cool man love you and miss you Dad….

@@iancrombie8862 5150 is great, but Sammy Hagar is not the sole reason Van Halen went in that direction, if you listen to Sammy's band Montrose its amazing hard rock music, it was the best time for Roth to leave, he was a one trick pony and eventually people lost interest in him while Sammy continued to sell after Van Halen

Saw them twice in the DLR era. First time was for Diver Down at the Chicago Amphitheatre, most pot smoke I'd ever smelled in my young life. My cousin was going out with a guy that was an Andy Fran and he moved me and my cousin around during the show until we were fifth row left. You'd think these were the best seats, but you can't really hear or see much better at that point than further back on the floor. Saw them again in 84'. That was a great show. My girlfriend at the time her father worked for Pepsi. He got us some great seats, I forget where because by that point we were the ones making all that smoke that permeated the air. Great album, great memories. My friend that went with us passed away recently, last time I saw him all we talked about was that show and how we wished we could remember more then we did.

I saw Women and Children and Mean Streets at the Chicago Amphitheater, Joan Jett opened for one of them - there was lots of smoke and we contributed to it!

@@sterlingarcher9208 Joan Jett! She opened up for The Police, one of my first concerts. The audience did not care for her and let her know it. I thought she was pretty good, did a bunch of Runaways stuff. The Cow Palace (Chicago International Amphitheater) had a helluva history. My Mother saw The Beatles perform there. I was from the South Side so we knew that area real well. My VH experience was one of the best concert memories I have! Even though I can't remember all of it, but that was the point of those kind of shows! That band WANTED you to have a good time, they were the ULTIMATE have fun and forget your troubles kind of band!

I saw Van Halen at the US Fest, then again in Oakland, both while I was in high school. Had fan crush on DLR for years and still think he’s unique, one of a kind, original performer. Hugely talented guy. Congrats on 50 years :) you rock

Yep, it's too bad Yoko, I mean, I mean, Valerie, came along and put a wrench in the works! Sammy Hagar before Van Halen; I can't drive 55, Rock Candy...with Van Halen; Why can't this be love... I just damn near puked! Never went to see a show nor did I put one dime in their pocket afterwards! The instantaneous and spontaneous death of Van Halen sucked ass!

@@benttwisted210 Valerie always played dumb pretending to wonder why Dave never liked her. No one needs a reason to not like anyone but Dave had plenty of reasons. Valerie might’ve had plenty to not like Dave but be real about it. I can’t imagine trying to control a spouse to this degree. If you don’t trust your partner to make their own choices, what’s the point of such a toxic relationship? Sad EVH ended up married to someone like this for so long. I’m sure EVH had lots of his own issues but it’s impossible to live a decent life that isn’t real with no trust no matter how much you love them.

Sadly there will never be a band this great again. The mighty Van Halen caught lightning in a bottle and poured gasoline on it. 1984 was the top of the mountain for them . The greatest guitar player in the history of rock along with the greatest back up vocals, greatest front man and most innovative drummer. Never will this happen again. Rest in peace

At first only Eddie wanted to use the synthesizer on this awesome record... and o boy was he right! He believed in himself, wanted it, got it and is historical. Ed made music just flow out of him. And now, Wolfie has taken the torch! He is also a awesome musiscian, like his father doing his own. And uncle Alex is his greatest supporter i presume. Respect to Van Halen!! always. Fan for life and beyond.

Ah cool ! Between him and Ronnie, both captivating, rich in charm and charisma. David makes me smile. Nice polar bear shirt.

So many comments about drugs and being high while at a concern. Many can't remember a whole lot other than being stoned. Such a shame...what a waste of talent and the ears to hear it in it's glory. That Jump guitar solo is a teeth gritter....less is more while playing with "the feels and squeals". Too bad many of you just used it for an excuse to do illegal drugs. Who am I? Guess you probably figured out I have a Military Special Operations background. I am a lifelong guitar player and music nut....not a stoner! Gun and knife guys don't use drugs. Enjoy the show...I always did and still do. If you can't kill it with tobacco and booze it's not worth killing.
