David Johansen - Funky But Chic + [1993]

Музыка

[Stereo] Live performance of a great track from his early solo career, post-New York Dolls, on USTV. The interview after the song is incomplete, as my tape ran out.....
Backed by the house band, and a few others. The guitarist, Jimmy Vivino, packs a lot into this tune before it is over with.

I saw him do this song live at The Whiskey a go go. in LA, in 1977. I've been a fan ever since. Later in the 80's we used to hang at the same after hours bar on Irving Pl, in NYC.

Johansen really thrives on live shows/improvs, I really admire David Johansen for taking risks with his career some hit and miss (buster) but he has a killer one of a kind voice and he explored that takes balls not like some has been artist that just dwell in their past fame, glad hes down to gift us his awesome voice no matter what genre

@@matthewjdouglas6471 I take back my harsh criticism of Thunders... he was indeed as important to the NY Dolls as David. That said, David's post Dolls work, FOR ME, was far superior to the others and he was the Dolls lyricist! Still, the Thunders junkie-chic was nauseating and dumb.

@Crimson Wolf not all thunders work was heroin chic or dumb. Have you actually listened to all his work. All his solo projects. I suggest listen to his so alone album from 1979 and he did some other work like his copy cats album he was a hard drug user but he was also a human being with issues that were never addressed. Sylvain sylvain wasn't a heroin or a drug user really at all, neither was author kane a heroin user. Just jerry and Johnny went on the dope train. Still they made great music and Jerry Nolan was a fantastic drummer he had the chops like gene krupa he may have been taught by him if not mistaken or someone great.

@@matthewjdouglas6471 I bought my UK import copy of "So Alone" back when it was first released. Same for my "Heartbreakers" LP. Saw the NY Dolls two nights in Houston TX (Liberty Hall). Followed the careers of all of the Dolls. It is things like "Chinese Rocks" (a solo Thunders staple) and proudly having a syringe publicly displayed in his hat or lapel that soured me on Thunders. How many kids were influenced & destroyed by that type of moronic crap? Heroin hates you.
