No other guitarist has this ability to make a solo sing to you like Gilmour….
There is one common thread to all of David Gilmour’s solos…. They are all AWESOME!

OMG. That final counterpoint with Rick…. I tried not to cry but I had to. Thank you.
Pretty amazing actually. David Gilmour has such a great touch and sound, and the amount of creative quality work he has done is downright incredible!

I just finally learned it also, a dream of mine since the first "time" I ever heard it. I can remember sitting with the seat back in my 260Z with a kick ass stereo with a buddy on a moonlit night and saying just lay back close your eyes and listen to this song and solo. I remember him saying, wow dude, incredible song. I can just close my eyes and drift away listening to this song and solo. Such an incredible artist, truly a gift to be able to listen to his body of work.
Good to see Fat Old Sun in the list. I love it because it’s not a “normal” Gilmour solo.

Not only is it "not normal" for him, it's his best solo of them all. I prefer the studio solo than the live version, but the live is incredible as well.

@Marty Kehoe the live FOS solo from I think September 30, 1971 has to tie anyone's favorite DG solo for 1st place IMO. Actually all four of the boys were in the groove that night with FOS, OOTD and ECHOES. Very tight. They were really ON that night. My favorite performance. David really soars!

It is so different from some of the other versions - a younger, more aggressive Gilmour on that one. Shine On is my fave song of all time, not just Floyd fave - I never get tired of it! So glad to get yet another version. Loved the quietness of Marooned here too! Mustafa always brings the best David to us!

David Gilmour's solos have the ability to touch my soul, give me goosebumps right down my spine, and puts my heart on fire. And gives me peacefulness . And helps me forget the pain I am in from Rheumatoid arthritis. He is the Legend, the best in my opinion. ❤😊 Thank you Mr.Gilmour.
I particularly love Dave's first solo for "Shine On" ...so incredibly mournful that it still puts a lump in my throat to this day. Also, really love his "Celestial Voices" section from "A Saucerful of Secrets" and his solos on "Echoes."
i have always felt floyd had a lovely elegance about their music and david gilmour is why 🫶
Даже когда Дэвид уронил медиатор на одном из концертов,никто и не заметил как он пальцами доиграл коипозицию,брава Дэвид,ты великолепен!😊

Мороз по коже от их музыки,это непередавапмое ощущение!❤
I'll probably take a hit for this, but a few of my top favorite David Gilmour solos aren't in the Pink Floyd catalogue. Check out his solo on the song "Breakthrough" with Richard Wright at the Royal Hall concert. Additionally, the solo on the song "No Way" is up there. However, my favorite solo comes from a song that I always loved but only recently found out David Gilmour played the guitar solo. Check out "Is Your Love Strong Enough?" by Bryan Ferry. The song was featured in the movie "Legend." It is short, to the point and really captures the mood.

solos best emulate the human voice...fewer notes are best. No one wants to hear a singer shred scales. They are best done with melodicism that takes you somewhere through phrasing that packs a punch. The use of blue notes makes them sound more like the cries of a weeping person. The bite of a guitar's note and tone add to this. That's Gilmour.

As hindu I do not understand this music. The guitarist seems to be versatile and original but why is it so loud ? Is it very emotional ? I would like to understand cause this is good music.
@justinfleury9579

Very emotional. It’s like he’s speaking with the guitar. And it’s very loud because he’s soloing. It’s the centerpiece.
@jaydaintith
Жыл бұрын
Being Hindu has nothing to do with understanding music. Music is a universal language, you should be able to feel the emotion and expression on these solos. If you can’t, I suggest listening more often and try to switch off from reality. Eventually it will all make sense.

Regarding the volume, the electric guitar by nature, to be able to achieve this type of sound needs to be at very high volumes and together with the type of guitar pickups, pedals and speakers, as support for the soul of the artist, produces this unique sound. Is is possible to distort the guitar signal and produces the same effect at low volumes but Mr. Gilmour usually performs in large and full arenas.
