@@paulthompson9668 Ye each conductor sometimes have a different reason. My conductor counts on beat (though we're just a school chamber orchestra), a guest conductor that visited did not. It mainly comes down to preference. It does look odd that the conductor is not on beat from an audience point of view. But that's how it is most of the time.

@@cosnzaid3636 I played in a marching band, and the conductor said you should be prepared to play your note *before* the baton hits the bottom of its trajectory. Now whenever I see an orchestra play its note when the baton is already on the way up to the next beat, it looks undisciplined.

He plays this difficult Caprice with such ease, enjoyment, and joy! It astounds me! I've heard other violinists play this and I'm always a little on edge and nervous they're going to make a mistake (which they never seem to) but, with David, I was completely relaxed and just enjoyed it!

Maybe you know now, but he did play Paganini in The Devil’s Violinist” 2015. Wasn’t a very historically accurate movie, but was interesting and, of course, was great to see an actual violinist play the part.

@@paulthompson9668 Ye each conductor sometimes have a different reason. My conductor counts on beat (though we're just a school chamber orchestra), a guest conductor that visited did not. It mainly comes down to preference. It does look odd that the conductor is not on beat from an audience point of view. But that's how it is most of the time.

@@cosnzaid3636 I played in a marching band, and the conductor said you should be prepared to play your note *before* the baton hits the bottom of its trajectory. Now whenever I see an orchestra play its note when the baton is already on the way up to the next beat, it looks undisciplined.
If one can play Paganini, he is certainly a skilled violin player. Paganini was also named "The Devil of the violin"

He plays this difficult Caprice with such ease, enjoyment, and joy! It astounds me! I've heard other violinists play this and I'm always a little on edge and nervous they're going to make a mistake (which they never seem to) but, with David, I was completely relaxed and just enjoyed it!

Maybe you know now, but he did play Paganini in The Devil’s Violinist” 2015. Wasn’t a very historically accurate movie, but was interesting and, of course, was great to see an actual violinist play the part.
His is the only performance of Caprice 24 that actually satifies. Has both a soul and no mistakes
