ARP's cofounder and lead designer of the original ARP Odyssey, David Friend, discusses the role he played as Chief Advisor to KORG for the re-issue of the ARP Odyssey. Friend explains his original intention for the ARP ODYSSEY was to provide artists with a synth designed and laid out for live stage performances. He also highlights significant artists who have used the synth and how he is excited to see what young musicians will create with such a historic instrument.

David seems to be a nice guy, therefor I bought a rev3. The only problem is that Cory Henry plays this synth a lot better than I do... Still like it though :)
I just uploaded a track I used the odyssey for the bass line.
Will they add pitchbend/modulation/velocity for USB control? Cant believe thats not bee done, Ill buy one when they do.

I just love the Quadra because it's 4 synth engines in one...an analog synth that can do more than two patches at once seems to be something really lacking on the market.

This is something I think DSI sort of dropped the ball with so to speak. The Rev2 seems like it's more or less a bit of backtracking and improving on the 08 instead of moving forward with something new. Two patches at once...come on...that's not impressive for 2017. Honestly...I wish Korg's ARP department was a bit more active or creative. I mean even something as small as calling the modules Avatars (which were essentially Odyssey modules back in the day) would have been nice. The Odyssey FS...I mean frankly it's something they should have brought out originally so it seems like a bit of backtracking also Now let's move on....where are the ARP string machines? ARP Quadra? Chroma? Take those throwbacks and improve on those. They are letting so much pass them by that it's really sad.

Anyone whose guitar has a 13-pin DIN output and a MIDI converter module can plug into the tabletop Odyssey better than if it was an Avatar. I just saw it written on VintageSynth.org that a re-creation 2600 is in the works at Korg. Might only be a rumor, but it's a fun rumor. Those other models could easily be resurfacing for all we know.
