My favorite “Fletcherism”, was when he said, “If you disagree, don’t send a message to tell us, no one cares..” I’m paraphrasing, but that was hilarious. Love his knowledge and joy in sharing what he knows. As a former tanker, I appreciate his joy.

Having seen the Tank Chat's since the beginning, I can't believe it's the end of an era. We all got so used to David's unique presence and looked forward to each new chat. It is a sad day, but no one deserves to enjoy retirement (finally) as this man. Thank you.

His humility belies his brilliance as both historian and stand-up comic. His talent for bringing history to life is what makes his "Chats" fun whether you care about tanks or not. He's a great teacher.

The way David reacted when he was told "23 million views" was touching. You could see the penny drop on the enormity of what he has achieved, even if he still doesn't quite know how it happened. With your wit and wisdom you've touched a lot of people David. You've created the next generation of enthusiasts, probably launched a few dozen military careers and perhaps sent someone off on the challenge to design the perfect tank which one day will take the field for the British Army. I thank you. We all do.

That's the thing, he probably STILL doesn't quite know how big he is or how much of an impact he's been on so many people.

David Fletcher is a national treasure; indeed, a treasure for all humankind. Wonderful combination of deep technical knowledge, humility, humour and basic decency.

He is a sacred piece of historical knowledge. He will be missed.

“When I first worked at Bovington there were still Centurions around”. For just a moment I pictured the last of the Roman legions leaving southern England. I’d just like to express gratitude for the hours of entertainment and education David Fletcher has provided. Truly an inspiration.

A lot of subjects that would otherwise be considered a bit 'dry' could be vastly improved by having their own version of Mr Fletcher to engage the public.

I'm going to miss this bloke more than anyone since Murray Walker.

Every Saturday night for the last few Covid years I'd look up a tank chats. Seeing David Fletcher there explaining a tank to us has been a great pleasure for me and an important part of my life. My greatest thanks to him and all the great crew responsible. I'm so grateful to you all. He's a gem and a very loveable and knowledgeable person.

Mr fletcher gave me a tour a number of years ago with college, fantastic experience that I cherish the memories of. He’s just one of those guys you can listen to all day as he knows so much and makes it interesting at the same time. Top man I wish him all the best in his future.

Considering that he “retired” seven years ago, I am still hoping that I will get the chance to run into him at the museum. If not, thanks for all of the great stories and videos.

At 80 Years old it's astonishing of how outstanding and memorable his work was on YT alone. Hope he enjoys his retirement, but I bet he will appear again at the tank museum

David has been the voice of the Tank Museum, erudite, knowledgeable and totally unique. He will be missed.

Noooo.... so sad to witness this. I LOVED every single episode with Mr. Fletcher, pure joy and a goldmine of knowledge every single one of them

I met David Fletcher in 1990 when he let my young 18 year old self sit in the back office reading all of the original documents about the Panther for a day. I even got to enter the museum an hour early the next day to look around inside the Panther. Fond memories, although nowadays I much prefer the Sherman ;-)

@@PsYChOtlC_ShArK I'm 6'3" and the Panther felt quite roomy, almost luxurious. A couple of years later I tried to drive a Chieftain and was most disappointed that I couldn't fit my knees under the glacis.

I do so hope that Mr. Fletcher knows how well he has entertained and educated so many, and I am sure piqued interests in his beloved museum!

So much history he has lived through and taught us about. A great man and I will miss his voice on the tank chats.

There's something special about Fletcher's brief chats. I still rewatch them when I see them pop up in the feed or I want to review a certain tank. I also like his honesty about tanks, sometimes even underated vehicles getting their due and being used in innovative ways never intended as well. I'm a grown man who literally teaches a Military History class and loves tanks; even I teared up at the end. You'll be missed Mr. Fletcher, but your videos will continue to be shared with my students for years to come.

David Fletcher was the best tank teacher for me and I served my conscript in the armored brigade here in Finland and live 3 kilometers from one of Europes best tank museum. At Parola we have a lot of different types of Soviet armor because during the wars they gave it to us all most free. Only small amount of bullets or a Molotov cocktail for a tank... , “If you disagree, don’t send a message to tell us, no one cares..” Parola out...

I am 60 and have loved anything armor since I was a small boy! I have seen many people come and go from many venues, and can say that David is one of a kind!

Mr. Fletcher will be missed but people like me will continue to go back and revisit him. Thank you Sir for such a frank and enjoyable series.

I will miss Mr. Fletcher a lot. He has a large part in my renewed interest in WW2 history and the engineering behind it. Thank you David Fletcher for sharing your wealth of knowledge and presenting it in a properly British way. :)

He will be sincerely missed. His humor and wit were instrumental in my interest in this channel and the Tank Museum as a whole.

I never had grandparents, but listening to David was like a grandfather giving you the history about the Tanks. It's a bit sad it's stopping, but i wish you the best and have a good time Mr. Fletcher.

A real legend of the history world. In my opinion, a perfect tank commentator. Charming and knowledgeable about everything but also entertaining and downright funny. You can't teach that level of humor and those little stories and just the way he describes things is just so entertaining and interesting. Just a truly wonderful human being. We've been blessed to have him teach us so much and entertain us for countless hours, enjoy your retirement sir!
