@@felipepipi1780 Bullshit. I've seen them live 3 times. Also seen Opeth, Tool, Mastodon, and more jazz-fusion artists that I can name. They're a hurricane live and brilliant.

that was amazing...i love how they really dont care much about the listener. it means they're driven by the music, not what the fans want. and most of the fans can attest to that.

@076walrus what's important is that the song moves you, inspires you, draws you to be on stage with them. Personally, i've been to a lot of concerts, i've seen a lot of bands, few of them pour as much of themselves in to their music as these guys, that's clearly evident onstage. It makes each song they play that much more meaningful to them, and me.

These guys are so cool

Omar is literally pissing on every robot in that room and anyone watching. He’s recognizing humans as LITERAL movie makers and is making it blatant by filming the interview. Every conversation is recorded and it’s the humans (or in most cases human robots) recording data in this computer simulation. They are also making fun of people who bring cameras and video recorders to concerts and how obscure and even mundane it looks, like a guy recording a video while being filmed.

@OneOfTheFire I bet their going to mash up the whole thing later in editing so everyone in the interview can be seen...except Big O....all we see is the top of his fro. Which alright with me...he has such an adorable smile in the beginning :)

If these guys are pretentious then good on them. There needs to be more selfish art in the world.

So they think the widow is more palatable then one of their more epic sonic explorations. Yep still a dope song and I’d like to hear it live also and actually have Cedric be able to keep up lyrically on a track for once.

@076walrus exactly...IMO their truest fans most likely never heard them on the radio before because real music isn't played on the radio anymore, it's all commerical bullshit...the first time i ever heard them was in live concert and i was hooked since...i didn't even know who TMV was until that show but i walked out the doors of that venue with a new favorite band forevarrrr :D

I gotta say, I love every song in their catalog, but sometimes I get the vibe that they don't really like their fans. Granted, in this interview, they mention being grateful, but I always get the feeling that they kinda just group all of their fans together and label them as pseudo/wannabe rockers and "number one" fans. Because of this, they come across as putting themselves above the fans. I think that's partly why people think they are pretentious, and I'll admit to thinking that sometimes.

Ced was ready GTF off that couch...don't blame him...same questions over and over...errr, where'd the name The Mars Volta come from? errr, So geez guys what happened with the whole quija board thing and Bedlam? What do your songs mean? If they truly knew who they were, what they were about and actually cared....no interviewer would ever ask them that canned shit...

For the record I would like to say that "The Widow" is NOT my favorite song and if it were up to me it would never get played live. Why? Because at both of The Mars Volta concerts I've seen that song was the only one that got huge reactions from the crowd. Sad. Just a testament to everything Cedric has said about radio killing creative music.....did they fail to absorb the dare I say RELIGIOUS experience because they paid $45 to make crappy cell phone videos and hear the one song they know?

these interviews on you tube are just ass kissing these guys These guys are really assholes.Are they saying they are American? Are they Mexico,Europe,Old fashion...??The only form of therapy for Omar is to exercises is bullshit.Whatch his hands doing the talking?I'm just part of the sewing circle...

Omar is as disrespectful as they come and Cedric just tries to emulate that because Omar's the alpha. I wish these guys would be a little more humble about their music. Yes they're talented but being a dick and having your fans accept it because they have nothing else to work with isn't cool. I'm a big fan of their music but I imagine meeting them would be the most disrespectful and condescending experience one can have.
