"Similarly, the drill sergeants repeatedly found that among the raw recruits there were men so abysmally untaught that they did not know left from right, and hence could not step off on the left foot as all soldiers should. To teach these lads how to march, the sergeants would tie a wisp of hay to the left foot and a wisp of straw to the right; then, setting the men to march, they would chant, “Hay-foot, straw-foot, hay-foot, straw-foot”-and so on, until everybody had caught on. A common name for a green recruit in those days was “strawfoot.”

@@Wielaica Straw is thick, tough and yellowish, hay is thin, flexible and greenish. Hay is dried grass and straw is dried cerial plants.

Wonderful. I'm glad someone took their time and made this movie, it gives us an intimate view of DEE playing his music. Does anyone have any idea about the tunings he favors? I know he's used shitloads of tunings...but not what tunings.

I have a Goldtone Banjola that I really like but it is smaller than the one he is using. I'd be interested in a full sized instrument for the volume and tone.

Woven Hand is lovely and all, but...idk...16 horsepower was something really special. I don't know that I can handle going the rest of my life with just those 7 albums. Frustrating.

William Foster Melt no you’re not. Saw him last night in a venue with less than 100 people. Thought I was in for something truly special Boy was I disappointed...I’ve seen him live 10 times since 1996, the last few times have just been disappointing.

Search for pollman mandolin banjo.. Unfortunately these type of instruments aren't build anymore, except by some company goldtone where they are 2000 dollars or something. Would love to get one of those antique ones!

Goldtone sells a Banjola for around 900 bucks! They have a deluxe that is much more expensive too, though. My question is whether or not it would be compatible with nylon strings, which is what David uses.
