If you want to hear some of my original music you can go here. I need to get back to recording. I did this in my bedroom, all instrument and vocal i did myself in one or two takes. It's really just sketches of song. Todd

One of Bowie's finest vocals; should've been a Bond theme.

Absolutely beautiful song. As you love the paino you should try the title track next for one of the most famous and original piano solos in pop music. Then do the rest of the album it's all brilliant

Could easily have been a bond theme tune. Vocals recorded in one take, need I say more…..

Some critic once called it a James Bond theme tune. It wasn't, of course. But it did sound like one.

Fantastic song, a favorite of mine; Mike Garson on piano. Bowie had a fabulous talent for picking musicians to work with. Keys, for instance: Rick Wakeman on Hunky Dory, Roy Bittan on Station to Station; and Mike Garson returned in the 90’s thru ‘04. Not to mention the guitarists he worked with over the years; Mick Ronson, Earl Slick, Robert Fripp etc. And I agree the bass lines are sometimes taken for granted, but Trevor Boulder has a fabulous line and sound on “Lady Grinning Soul.”

PS: a oblique suggestion from ‘03’s “Reality” album- “Bring Me the Disco King” - an excellent song, Mike Garson on piano, Bowie vocals, and Sterling Campbell on drums

Ronson, Slick, and maybe a guy named Carlos Alomar. Dont forget his longtime bass girl. Gail Anne Dorsey... Also toured with drummer Aynsley Dunbar, who has a who's who of people he's played with.

Other than a cover of the Stones' "Let's Spend the Night Together" the rest of _Aladdin_ _Sane_ still holds up. The tracks vary in genre, though (everything from do-wop of "Drive-in Saturday" and "Prettiest Star" to heavy metal of "Cracked Actor"). The title track is awesome on its own, however.

What surprises me is that many people think the sound quality of 70s album productions was bad or at least worse than it is now and it's absolutely wrong they had amazing producers and sound engineers at the time they were limited by the number of tracks they could record on but that was all.

Lady Grinning Soul is the greatest piece of modern music yet devised and anyone who disagrees is a halfwit and it's only negative is that it is not longer,,,,listen to the whole album but the other tracks that elevate the stardust fellow to god like status are the title track and time and I envy you not having heard them yet they will blow you,,,,,,,,,,,ah yes

Funny enough, not one of my favourite Bowie albums although Lady Grinning Soul is one of my favourite tracks from this era. Aladdin Sane is a great title track but I have heard it so many times same with Gene Genie. My next favourite track is "Time," very Bowie and Panic in Detroit is pretty good but not stand out. Don't get me wrong, they all have some charm but Rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust, Hunky Dorey, Low and Diamond Dogs are all better and his best 70's work (IMO)
