About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

Agree Ricky
This is so awesome to see Ricky Gervais talk about how down to earth David Bowie was. :)
I've heard so many anecdotes about how David was just a regular, friendly, funny guy if you were lucky to know him. Shrewd and professional of him to keep the Rock God persona for the stage. I believe in his first flush of fame he had difficulty separating himself from the Ziggy he created and it nearly drove him insane. He really learned to be the master of his fame and enjoyed a rich personal and private life. Quite an achievement among his myriad others and perhaps his most rewarding. I can only guess, for his private life was exactly that. And rightly so.

I knew a fella who was working in wherever Absolute Beginners was made, Pinewood or Elstree. He was in the queue in the canteen with the rest of the set builders. Bowie came in and joined the queue like everyone else. A lacky came over and said 'Mr Bowie, please come to the front'. Bowie said 'no, I'll queue with the rest of the fellas thank you' and proceeded to chat like a normal human being. In the 70's he was surrounded by his management and wasn't so approachable. But he loved to just chat about mundane things.

Ricky is just like the rest of us. In awe of how truly amazing Bowie was in every way. Was, is and forever will be. ❤
Everytime Ricky Gervais tells a story it's always hysterical and awesome to hear, but to hear him talk about Bowie makes my day. Such a great friendship 🖤
We are so damn fortunate to have lived during Bowie's lifetime. And how utterly blessed many of us were to see him perform live. #DavidBowieRockGod! ⚡💜⚡💜⚡💜⚡💜

Yes, I see it the same way..... So fortunate to have lived in the time of David Bowie!
David never really considered himself a 'Rock God', he used to say that to amuse himself. Met him twice at his invitation and was so funny, so kind and just a regular kind of guy. I felt like I knew him for years that's how comfortable he made me feel...

David Bowie is Ricky Gervais...
Long Live The StarMan 🌟
They tell us not to worship people as Idols. During my Senior Year of High School, we were given an assignment in English Class to write about our Idols. I CHOSE Bowie. Not because of his person, but rather because of the SPIRIT within the human vessel of David 'Bowie' Jones. I loved his androgynous Self, his spunk, his energy, his creativity, his music, his acting, and his character. Now I realize why I keep seeing animals and characters with one shiny eye, people that blink one eye, and cars with only one headlight. IT's not just Sans of Time, but rather Father Time winking at Mother Nature. SPIRIT guiding me through my course, my destined life path. For 'Mee, in my personal journey, David Bowie IZ IT! "Don't dream IT, be IT" "If you build IT, they will come." "IT is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye."
The first record I ever bought was “Drive In Saturday”, then bought “Diamond Dogs” when it first came out, and was obsessed with it from that first needle drop on “Future Legend”s “.. this ain’t Rock ‘n’ Roll, this is genocide!” lyric! It even got me a Gold Star ⭐️ in my English class after the teacher asked if anyone knew what the word “genocide” meant, and I was only one who raised their hand and knew what it was! All thanks to “Diamond Dogs”
Ricky gives you the idea that you had the experience. Gervais is the Bowie of comedy.
Six bereft years since we lost David Bowie and it still hurts like losing your first love, that deep down don't know whether to laugh or cry emotion. Watching Ricky Gervais and his decription of such a normal down to earth David Jones with scart leads in his hands brought back that same laugh or cry emotion, thank you.
He’s right. Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing Reprise is my favorite. It’s genius!

Ricky is a legend.
David, always ahead of our time ⚡️✨💫
PSA to everyone that Ricky Gervais was a total stud back in the day when he was the lead of the music duo known as Seona Dancing. His vocals took much inspiration from Bowie, especially for their hit track "Bitter Heart". He doesn't much talk about it because people basically laughed him out of the music industry, but I can't imagine why for the life of me. Gervais was fantastic.
Sweet Thing Suite is still my favorite Bowie "track". Very cool to see Gervais give it a shout out.

Omg remember that thing with Ricky in what was it? Extras or something? Where Ricky's getting disappointed by David. :') Oh and Arcade Fire: awesome band!
Sweet thing/Candidate/Sweet thing is one of the four great "epic" Bowie songs. The other three being Cygnet Committee, Station to Station, and Blackstar.
"Like I had to remind him I knew who he was", that is such a brilliant, self-reflective line...
I agree about Sweet Thing. It's unbelievably brilliant.
My heart hurts, I miss him so much. Thanks, Ricky Gervais, for making me feel less alone.
In the 90s met the lovely man after so so many years of thinking he was the only man I would marry! Not gay but loved the man so much he was electric to meet,I thanked him for his wonderful music,he was kind and elegant,it was only afterwards I realised he was also with his beautiful wife for whom I had missed, being transfixed to this gentleman....Does Ricky have a job lot of Simon Cowell Tee Shirts?
I love Ricky Gervais but adore David Bowie even more. This was delightful plus my favorite Bowie song Heroes in the background. I would love to hear even more of his thoughts❤️
Sweet thin indeed is a great, great song.
i love that i share a favourite artist with my favourite comedian
Bowie was brilliant. The world is a darker place without him. 🧑🏻🎤
That’s the way I felt watching Bowie on SNL in Dec ‘79 at age 11. 🌞 I can be something 🙂
I messaged the saxophonist who appears in the background music on Lazarus and Blackstar of course by David Bowie! and now I'm getting it signed by him! nearest to Bowie i could get! C.
Your right Rick when I heard five years and bought ZSATSFM I was hooked like millions of others, he defined an era and definitely gave me my love of words after listening to his lyrics on most of his songs, I actually think he changed a lot of peoples thinking subconsciously, he really was the ultimate chameleon
Don't worry Rick, we will never forget about Bowie gift. Because legends live forever!!
I was obsessed by Sweet Thing at 13 years old. Still one of the best songs ever.
For me it was and it will always be Bowie and Prince.
Candidate/Sweet Thing, is still a song I play weekly. I've had to replace endless albums, & cds of his. Loved him since The man who sold the world album.

The man who sold the world is the first Bowie lp I bought and sweet thing/candidate is still my favorite of all his work. Diamond dogs gets a regular workout at my house, too. Still have the original lps. I never wore them out because my sisters and I made a habit of recording our albums on cassettes and then playing them until they wore out, then recording them again.
Miss db so much. We used to go for years knowing he was plotting another album. And then it would happen.. Waiting now knowing it won't happen is horrible. 🙏 God bless ya David ❤️
OMG! DAVID BRENT!!!!!!
The snub nosed face guy really loved him.
Rock opera meets grunge, so fucking true...
I commented earlier in the wrong place, but.....I just want you to know how much I value your mind, so happy you had a personal friendship with someone that had so much impact upon the world, and on such personal levels. What's more, I think the people that have befriended YOU, have something of value in their lives. I know you are so appreciated the world over. I raise my Foster's to you. Cheers, mate!
Miss him Bowie so much you can never get bored of his music LONG LIVE HIS MUSIC

Sweet thing. Heard it for the 1st time, yesterday. Can't stop playing it.
Love the way he speaks about his friend. Still laughing I am sure David. Is watching him and also laughing.
Really happy to see this. David was just something out of this world, and the way Ricky describes him is so fantastic... I remember Bono saying that, the reason why his family got a color TV was because of Bowie. My goodness I miss him so much.
Love this. It's the personal stories like this that make me love him more. Bowie not Gervais... Sorry mate. (RG, you're pretty epic too 😊)

Ricky was getting emotional then. He's so lucky to have known him. I often wondered did Bowie did normal things, like paint a door or hoover up. Of course in his youth days. But as a super rich rock God, I just can't imagine it. And here he was try to sort out Ricky's telly! I miss him. But he's not gone.
Sweet Thing is one of my favourites too - it's brilliant, and his voice is just so amazing!
Everyone Lives You, as well!
Sweet Thing is so good. I wish more people knew about it.
I'm with Ricky ! Luv luv luved Bowie what feels like forever and his music continues to feel current and more relevant than ever .
Heroes One of my favorite songs
Glad to hear about David Bowie and Ricky had wild times together sounds awesome 👍
love Ricky but worshipped David, i remember back in the day on Bowienet chatting with David in the chat room just the 2 of us for ages. it ended up with me sending him a vhs tape of bbc show Baal to new york as he never saw. always will be loved lord Bowie.once your life gets involved in Bowie your life is changed for the better forever
I was 13 when Bowie died, cried like a bitch that night even at that age..I knew what we all lost, thanks dad for inspiring my music taste
I love how Ricky loves Bowie. So good

Thanks for that.☺️🥰
Bowie fixing cables on his telly👍😃. I agree with your comments ..sweet thing g8 too.
Arcade Fire's Funeral changed my life. Amazing album!
Really enjoying this run of videos. I feel like Ricky proved there’s not much you can actually say about Bowie’s music in words to do justice, but it’s more about the impact his music had on the lives of everyone who heard it and the humble rock god himself.
Hearing Bowie for the first time was nothing short of revolutionary. I can't really describe him or his art well.
great. my favorite comedian talking about my favorite musician
i love this 😍

Thank you so much Ricky! You are me. We get up and try to get our things done. Everyone is against David Bowie, but David Bowie is everyone. This yacht thing is a misrepresentation. Please help. DJ is not Bonno. Bono annoyed him.
The word genius gets thrown around too often however in David's case, I believe it to be true.

Ricky knows his stuff when it comes to David Bowie. I love the Mick Ronson stuff though I have to admit.
I love how much his laugh sounds like Bowie's

IN MEMORY OF THE SLAIN HERO AND HIS RESURRECTION You roared like a Lion in Manhattan, you spent all your money and lived like a king...you fought the battles of the Lord and came to destitution. You cried out in the gates of the city like a leper Messiah, and none gave heed to your call except the outcasts and dregs of society. You gathered them together as a shepherd gathers his sheep...they came to life at your words, your art and your reckless abandon of all convention. You piped a wondrous tune and the light of light entered into them. You fell into the shadow of death and " looked for his ass". You flew from Station to Station like a demon in your mad quest for redemption--- you redeemed others, yet you didn't redeem yourself. How have the mighty fallen! Your days passed like a shadow, yet you fought the evil eye of Sauron...you fought the wild beasts in the forests of Mordor....the hordes of Gog and Magog descended upon you. They surrounded you like maddened bees, yet you cut them off in the name of the Lord. But Gog had the upper hand and slew you...he desecrated your body, he infested your temple with the wasting disease! Yet you held on to the last and made an everlasting memory of your strife, the cries of your art told the tale of your war, it told the gospel of your death, it published the news of your ascension...here you are, dwelling in heaven, no scars to be seen...here you are, one magical movement from Keter to Malkuth! Here you are, you fly like an angel from Station to Station! Fly on you crazy diamonds, and arise from the dust...the time of your warfare is past... He walks among us like a god among men...and who can tell his tale? He was not regarded by the high and mighty, he was cast off as a freak of nature....yet he gathered the outcasts of Israel...his memory endures forever! He will be given the spoils of war, he will be raised and exalted more than he ever was during the days of his mortality...he is the hope of all of those who have fallen in battle! Shine on, shine on you mad Man, you Hero, you Lazarus, you Blackstar!
