Well, I'll say this about Benevidez he's hungry, and like he said, he's still young . It would be a hell of a fight. But like any other sport, too many politics are involved and it's about the money, not the sport . Back in the day, Champions fought champions no matter how much money there was . I'd say it's a bit of both. You have a point that he lost the belts. It's also the champs duty to defend titles against the number 1 contender. He's been number 1 for a few years. Whether he lost them or not, he deserves that shot for the sake of boxing. Imagine a sport where you can pick and choose who you play in the championship? The real fans want to see this fight happen. It'll be worth every dollar.

This is why boxing needs a rebuild and a tournament style setup. 4 brackets for each belt (WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF). Fighters are picked lottery style to be in one of these brackets and then seeded based on current status. You fight in your bracket to win that belt, and then the champs of their brackets fight the champs of the other bracket to become undisputed for that weight class for that season. Fighters finishing at the bottom face upcoming fighters for relegation. Undisputed champs have a period to enact a super fight vs the other undisputed champs from neighboring weight classes. After that, we reset and do it again. ESPN hosts early rounds of tourneys, big platforms like DAZN etc hosts the championships etc. It's a dream but I like dreams
