Seeing these roses in Spring is stunning. However, it will be important to see these same choices in this series of videos, in mid and late August. An evaluation as to disease resistance to powdery mildew and black spot, as well as Japanese beetle damage will be most important for the Northeast gardeners. Will you also offer us one listing of them all from best to not so good?

Our evaluations are ongoing, including some recently introduced selections (and some others that have yet to be introduced). Since most of these have only been under trial for the last year or two, and we like to look at them over a longer period, it is too early to report definitively so thank you for waiting, and please stay tuned. We can tell you that some potential stars are emerging and show terrific promise, and as we complete our trials we will continue to post our findings here on this channel. How many years have the trial roses been in the test garden, and were they planted bare root? Are most David Austin roses “Own root” roses? After this bloom flush, are there repeat blooms, or does the bush take awhile to regenerate blossoms again. Thank you love the series.🌸

This trial garden was planted 4 years ago with bare root specimens. Most of the plants are budded but some are "own root" and this is part of the ongoing trial to try to discover the ones that are vigorous enough to perform well on their own root systems. It is interesting that you have selected this variety (Imogen) to pose your question, because the first "unsprayed" plant that David is standing next to (and he talks about in this video), is in fact on its own roots, and is actually growing bigger and stronger that the other three budded plants. For anyone that is interested, if you examine the base of a rose plant, you can usually see (especially if they are dormant), if the plants are budded or not. Budded plants will have a telltale "knob" at the graft union, and you will probably be able to see were all the stems emerge from one point on the rootstock. Whereas, a plant that is growing on its own roots will not have this and is likely to have multiple stems springing from ground level.

Can you please recommend a fungicide for roses?

In our nursery, we use control strategies that are available for licensed commercial applicators, so we are not very well equipped to give you guidance with fungicides for home application. Therefore, we would refer you to your local garden center experts who are much better acquainted with the best products for your area. Also, in reviewing the David Austin website, there is a recommendation for BioAdvanced Disease Control spray. The active ingredient is Tebuconazole. Other products with the same active ingredient could be applied. We neither recommend or endorse this spray -- just sharing information listed on the David Austin website. Refer to "Spraying roses to control disease". www.davidaustinroses.com/blogs/news/the-basics-of-growing-roses Getting back to the subject of plants, have you subscribed to our channel? our experience with it is confined to here in the Northeastern USA, so I am afraid we can't help you very much with your Thai conditions. The only thing we can suggest is to contact your local garden centers and try to visit public gardens in your area to gauge how similar plants are doing and get the guidance of your local experts.
