DAVE SIMMONS - Soul Radio Show Jan 1974 (Part 1)

Dave Simmons ran a weekly show on BBC Radio One from 1972-74, taking over the Saturday early evening slot from Mike Raven’s R&B Show.
In his own words (in his column for UK magazine ‘Blues and Soul’): “since I inherited the Saturday show from Mike Raven in January ’72, I’ve widened it’s field somewhat. It’s still r’n’b, except there’s more r and less b. I’ve gradually cut back on the blues, because it’s appeal today has obviously been outstripped by that of soul ...................”
Widening the field included playing more Reggae and African music, and a popular feature was his phone call to a US radio station where a DJ would run through some of the current stateside hits.
This is the first half of a January 1974 show, rescued from side one of a home recording on a good old C90 cassette . I
I do not own this material.

Great stuff! I'm a child of the 70s and it's great to hear all the good vibes and discover new tracks as well. Cheers from North Carolina!
