How much pressure do you apply when using the tool? When i "Let the weight of the tool do the work" it doesn't do a damn thing. i gotta press pretty hard for it to actually shave off some cane from the reed.

When using the 'Geek, make sure you are putting direct pressure at the reed, holding the tool on edge 20 degrees or so. (don't let it flop around) The weight of the tool is creating the balance. When removing larger amounts of cane or severe warping from the table you will have to add more pressure. Please refer to other tutorial videos or contact me at reedgeek.com for further help.

Is it crucial that you do it very lightly and let the weight of the tool do the work? I've been having issues with the tool, but I'm wondering if it could be a problem that I'm applying too much force.

Kyle, for sure just let the 'Geek balance and let the weight of the tool find any areas of the reed that are out of square! Keep the 'geek on the reed and apply a smooth back and for motion. I am posting a new tutorial video this weekend!...Mauro

I have just ordered one of these but it seems to me that any sharp edge would take the warp or rough edges off the reed without the 40 dollar cost ..

I think it takes more than just flattening the back of thar reed to fix it. Honestly it sounds as crap after as it did before.

No, this is not true. Sandpaper will not give you a truly flat surface. The ReedGeek utilizes the worlds most wear resistant alloys and is machined square and flat to tolerances -.0005" with a proprietary "True Edge" process. THAT will give you a flat surface. Thanks! RG

i never understood why you have to spend 60 bucks on something when a regular razor blade applied correctly does the same exact thing? your shaving off a thin layer of wood.

Hi Sam, ReedGeek’s are extremely balanced with an ultra fine and completely true edge. They will actually leave the reed flatter then it left the factory and aid in sealing the pores. Also, they have specific curves to perform very precise balancing and profiling to the top side. A razor blade is not only dangerous and refined at the edge, but will tend to chatter and leave gouge’s and nicks in the reed when pressure is applied. … Mauro
