My dad is truly a fan of the NY Giants and Yankees but he's in his 70s. He was listening to Yankees broadcasts with my grandpa on the radio as a kid. His whole childhood sounds like Sandlot. That's who is actually a fan of sports teams. Otherwise watch "Big Fan" with Patton Oswalt and soak in what those people are. That movie was still the most cogent take on what sports fans are, and how you pack a stadium full of people to watch those games. Patton Oswalt sucks, but he really took the time to create a piece of cinema that explains why "Star Wars fan" and "Football Stats guy" are two sides of one coin.

It's the only sports thing I truly enjoy watching other than MMA which my interest often fades on significantly. I definitely had some weird autism like shit going on as a kid where I would set there with a deck of baseball and do 1 v 1 where I'd compare stats. I literally thought that was fun. Couldn't imagine doing anything remotely like that now. A lot of people who claim autism just have the traits a young boy and never grew up. As far as fandom goes, I don't miss vols games on tv but even as a kid I always thought tailgating, having signs, and going to games in general was fucking gay The image of a grown man in a jersey with black paint on his cheeks is maybe the gayest thing you can do other than actually being b***fucked

Some guy at work asked me to join fantasy football. Let's just put it this way, he had a pretty serious slip and fall in the men's room shortly thereafter.

My old coworker, a real heel, would only talk about fantasy football, gambling, betting on sports, and playing Madden football. I absolutely hated every moment stuck with him, but we did avoid a physical altercation.

I remember when fantasy football started to get popular and a buddy in class said one time "Hey Im rooting for your Colts this weekend. I got Peyton Manning on my fantasy team." I thought less of that dude ever since.

The concept of a sport is fine to me, in history they were simply simulations of real life scenarios these people would deal with (hunting, jousting, fighting, even something like polo is good for horse riding skills, but most sports with a ball are very very lame and pointless imo. I like Olympics sports too, those have a different goal of showcasing the excellence oft the human body. Something like golf or football is just so dumb and proves nothing about anyone or anything

I get that being fanatical and obsessing over individual athletes is pretty much man worship, which is never a good idea if you’re trying to be your own man. But I can appreciate sports as far as the team element and the competition as far as representing a city or state. As well as the strategy of many sports themselves. the gameplay of and irl violent chess match that is American football, regardless of the physical skill of the players, is fairly interesting and fun to watch. For the record I never played football at any level other than flag football as a kid. Played silly billy Soccer in high school. Which I will still watch over baseball and basketball (the most man worshipping sport ever) but which is much more boring than something “dumber” or “more jock” like football or hockey. Point is you can appreciate watching sports games without worshipping the men that play them there’s a big separation that can be made there. It’s kinda funny because Sam could have been an NFL linebacker I know he was skinny in school but. He really is like an art school nerd that just got huge.
